I seriously doubt the previous owner even knew he had a cabin filter. This filter looks like it came from the factory and never got changed.

I followed the DIY procedure (http://www.unofficialbmw.com/repair_faqs/microfilter.html) that said it should take about 45 minutes to complete (it took me an hour). It's a pain in the ass to access and then you have to go by feel.
