WoW Funeral Ambushed

World of Warcraft, otherwise known simply as WoW, is one of the most popular and successful computer games in history. It is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game that 6 million people pay $10 -15 per month to play. This type of popularity creates a sample size that is large enough to reflect the forces that control it. In Layman's terms, with this many people playing this online game at any given time human nature tends to get a stronger representation.

The first "reality" check was a bug that caused a plague to outbreak and affect people's characters in certain cases instantly killing any player below a certain level.

The second "reality" check was when this group of Warcraft players otherwise known as a guild interrupted a memorial service. Apparently, some dude dies in real life who is a popular WoW player. The people in the game think it would be nice to have a memorial for the player so they log into his account, take the character to a lake, and set it up for everyone to come pay their respects.

A bunch of dudes decide this would be a great time to ambush everyone so they run over a hill, kill the dead guy's character, and then wipe out everyone who was there to show their respects. They filmed the whole thing and put it on the net.

A little over the top for the funeral in a game though.

I saw this a while ago on another forum I frequent, and a lot of the people on that forum play on that server or whatever. I guess they were in a really high PVP area too.. I didn't expect anything less would happen when they set themselves up like that.

Yea, if you're not PVP, you're PvEnemy (which is more or less vs computer and more of a roleplaying aspect to it).

i read that the gamer was a girl who died from stroke..so basically..other gamers who played with that person online all gathered together and pay their respects the only way they can..then a clan called serenity now ambushed and killed everyone at the scene

LOL. Okay, the fact the one player died is a shame, and it was a nice idea to have a funeral for him. But indeed, the 'reality check' was hilarious. Serenity's video at least apologizes for their loss, so no harm done. Hilarious stuff tho... so epic w/ the guys running to the 'battleground' haha.

Shoulda used some intense orchestra music for effect :thumbsup: but yes, good choices anyway.

Serenity Now's action was classless. Period. Deciding to have a funeral in an area where anyone can attack anyone (PvP) was stupid. Period. Revenge-hacking Serenity Now's website, brilliant! LOL

What's sad is that the girl's friends were going to record the WoW funeral procession and give it to her family. I don't play this game or any MMO but a funeral online? That's kind of a smart/cool thing. When you play games online you sometimes play with people from all parts of the world, so it makes sense. Flying in is costly and timely, an online-funeral is more convenient. For an online-friend who you may not know too well but knew well enough and who maybe lives in another country or on another continent, it's a fitting/modern way to pay your last respects in this situation.

If anything they could probably redo the funeral... in a safe PvE location this time :thumbsup:

i agree... though i can see the humor in this and why people would chuckle at an "online funeral", lots of these kids who play this are 15-22 and probably dont have enough money to pay their respects in person..

Only reason why i could see them holding this in a pvp zone is if this person is anything like me and my guild, we're more liked by the opposing faction so that way members of both factions could show up.

again, fairly tasteless ambush imo.
