I was looking at few, people start importing them from Japan etc .. ( 90/91 model ) for some reason, they are going very cheap over there, app. $10K to buy it from Japan auction .. with shipping duty tax .. can get one for $14-15K  that is cheap for such a nice car! ( same price as people asking for a 16 yr old MR2 here! )

This car came from Japan! Just look at the smaller bumpers, lack of red reflectors on the rear signal lights, blinkers on the fenders.

It's a nice car (esp. the wheels!), but the parking job is @$$.

BTW. any idea how much a ~91 300E 24v will cost from Japan?

^That parking job is good, considering he is dead in the middle between the lines. Atleast he isn't brushed up against just one line, I hate people who do that.

I'm not sure, something like $80,000, don't have a clue really.

In that respect, it's good... but I just don't think chin-scraping is a good thing.

Right... but the Germans DO supply RHD markets with RHD cars!!! Read any British or Japanese car magazine and see if you can't find any RHD BMW's, Benzes or Porsches.

LHD cars in Japan are considered a status symbol, thus, some people will prefer to buy their cars in LHD just to stand out a bit from the crowd. Usually LHD and RHD versions of the same model are available, with the exception of hyper-exotics like Carrera GT, F40, Enzo, or cars that were never made in LHD (e.g. Fiat Barchetta, Merc 500E, etc.). At one time, even Honda gave buyers the choice of LHD on their Accords (usually the US-built coupe and wagon) even though RHD was available.

Interestingly, the LHD cars for the Japan market have their low beams aimed to the left side of the road like RHD cars.

Another way to tell is the small license recess on the trunk lid. Japanese plates are slightly bigger than ours. Also, the antennae on the trunk (possibly TV antennae) are commonly seen on this type of car over there.

Personalized plates should be fair game, if they didn't want them to be seen they wouldn't have ordered them...

This body style sl500 MSRP'd at $82,600, while the SL600 goes for $128,950 (american prices), the new style is pretty similar in pricing.

Unless I'm completely off the mark, it's a two-tone paint job. The entire bottom half of the car is that grey colour.
