Have it powder coated.

powercoated or ceramic coating would be best

otherwise high temp engine paint like DupliColor stuff works best

There's some engine enamel at CDN tire that should work fine.

I used duplicolour high heat as well. It worked fine..

Previously I've used ford engine enamel. You can get it in lots of colours, and it doesn't fade.

how long did it last?

Did you have to sand or prep your cover at all first?

Yes, most valve covers will have a black wrinkle finish when stock. I polished my valve cover first, 150 grit, then 220, 400, 800, 1500 until smooth.

I have not installed the valve cover yet, so I'm not sure how long the paint lasts. However I have used the same paint on other engine parts, and brake calipers and have not had any problems with pealing/chipping/etc.

Very easy, I think there's like 7 or more bolts on a d16 valve cover. Though make sure that you clean the area where the valve cover gasket meets the head thoroughly. Also you can check your valve cover gasket condition and you can easily replace it w/ a new one for a low price.

For the valve cover, use an aircraft paint remover, comes right off, then if you want the smooth finish on your new paint sand it w/ a very fine grit 1500-2000.

The paint has been on for about 2 months now, and has been pressure washed about 20 times. No sign of peeling, still looks great.

on my old B16a I didn't prep at all. I just sprayed in VERY light coats till I had it at the right color. Be patient.

I think they have it a CDN Tire if they don't try Auto Value.
