Get them to sign a legal document waiving you of any responsibility once the initial repairs/payments agreed upon are made.

I was in pretty much the exact same type of accident a few years ago. Everything was settled and the guy I hit was happy with what he got, but then I get a surprise letter from his girlfriend at the time of the accident a year later, and now she wanted 100 g's saying I gaused her extensive injuries.

You would be surprised how many people will be 'good' about the accident initially until they find out how much money they can potentially make, although Alberta's new laws hinder that a bit.
