Yahoo! Drag Racing Season set to start, and GO FLAMES GO!
It's that time of year again! With Calgary's quarter mile strip at Race City Motorsports Park expecting to open for business on April 21st, the time to get everyone pumped for the new year is definitely now. Edmonton's Budweiser Motorsports Park is scheduled to open April 29th, with the first Street Legal event scheduled for May 12.

The season opener in Calgary is shaping up better than we expected. It looks as though the day's high could reach 18 degrees, and despite local disappointment that the drag racing season didn't start on April 14th - I'm sure everyone is still excited to get things underway in a few short days.

I think we're going to see the most competitive set of cars and times ever compiled for "the list". 2006 is going to bring us a whole bunch of firsts and here's to hoping everyone runs fast, runs safe, and nothing expensive breaks. Get to the track, light them tires up with a sexy burnout, lay some pads and bring home your best ET. Just do it! Submit it!

New For 2006, A Complete List of Entries & More.
Even if you don't have a Top 10 car, you can, and should submit your fastest entries. All timeslips faster than 14.99 will be eligible. What this means is that there will be sub-lists created from the timeslip database for various things, and by submitting your fastest times, you will get onto the main overall list, but you will also potentially find yourself on one of the Top 10 sub-lists.

The Top 10 is nice, and ultimately that is the primary focus. However, in an attempt to expand the interest to all who enjoy taking a tear down the strip in something moderately quick, there will be sub-lists, as well as a published list that will include all entries submitted. The more people who submit, the longer the list will become, and the more accurately you will be able to determine where you really stand. So, if you want to see how your car stacks up, go to the strip, get a timeslip, and submit it.

The sub-lists will break down into FWD, RWD, AWD, High MPH, Best 60 Foot, Etc. So, keep your slips, and submit the ones you're most proud of.

Welcoming all V8's / Outlaws.
You've got a V8, and you want to participate? No problem. No problem at all. I will be keeping a database for all cars that don't fit into the SCC / Import class. The Outlaw list will be kept in the same fashion, subject to the same general rules as the SCC's. However, your car make/model doesn't matter. Anything goes. I will keep a Top 10 list for the outlaws, as well as a database with all outlaw entries received. If your Mustang or Camaro falls into this class and you are excited to be included, please take it upon yourself to spread the word to your friends. The success of the outlaw list is dependent on you. This is a trial, and I am more than happy to volunteer my time and resources to maintaining this list. Depending on the response received by the community, the Outlaw list will either be continued or abandoned. So, I'm providing the foundation - it's up to the V8 / Outlaw community to build upon it.

Edit: July 30th, 2006

After 3 months of racing and no Outlaw or V8 submissions, this trial has been abandoned due to lack of participation.

Anyone submitting times from this Friday will be on the list for certain. Expect the list to get more competitive as time goes on, and more cars have the opportunity to run.

I hope you run your 11. Good luck, have fun.

sure why not? seriously, i think it would be only fair, so you should start a thread; he's taking the time to manage this list, and only the people that want to be on will submit if they feel like it or if they fit the rules he made; i see nothing wrong with having two lists, managed by two different people.

most "tuned" Volvo's will be either 4 or 5 cylinder turbos, with some V8's thrown in...if they don't count that's cool...but hte 4/5 cylinder models should? no?

Reminder: Post your slips guys, the first published listing will be up on May 1st. That's just a couple days. (Monday it will be posted) - so, scan them slips, take a pic, whatever. Just get them up and you'll get on the list. Send via e-mail or PM or whatever works for ya.

Might be the only time you see 14 second cars in the Top 10. :D

So, if you have a qualifying timeslip, and want on the list - submit by end of the day and you will be on the first published list which will stay posted for at least a couple of weeks. Fame awaits, if you want it!

If anyone is wondering why my Z isn't listed, it's because I didn't submit a slip!

All About Sub-lists:

A chance for wider participation in 2006 Alberta's Fastest Sport Compacts / Imports.

Essentially the Top 10 list tracks the lowest ET's. However, from the information collected from all submissions, we will be able to generate sub-lists. These are the sub-lists that I am planning to track and publish Monthly. The first set of sub-lists will be posted on May 29th, 2006.

All Entries Received Fastest ET
Fastest Race City ET
Fastest Castrol Raceway ET
Fastest Medicine Hat ET
Fastest AWD ET
Fastest FWD ET
Fastest RWD ET
Highest Trap MPH
Fastest 1/8th Mile ET *
Highest 1/8th Mile MPH *
Lowest 60 foot ET *

* In order to be eligible for these categories, you MUST submit a timeslip with this information on it. Video entries will not be eligible for these categories as this information is not available. Video entries will be eligible for the other categories.

The list has been updated, and we have at least one very exciting entry! We also now have (barely) enough entries to actually fill the Top 10 spots. Well, I guess that's some progress.

Ron @ Revolution Motorsports put down the first 11 second entry of the year. But what is most impressive about this entry is not just the ET, the Trap MPH is (by far) the highest Trap MPH ever since the list was started in 2003. Ron's 136.67 mph pass is the first ever 130mph+ entry, and you can see this car will be good for 10's to be certain. No pressure, but a 10 second pass would also be a first for the list, and this burden falls on Ron's shoulders - but I think it will be no problem as the year progresses. Good on ya, that's one super fast Talon. Very impressive. Ron's entry needs to have a back-up pass verification still. We're in the progress of moving the video data to one another, which is why the time posted is the time I was able to verify from what I have received. This will likely change when the next list is compiled. But in the mean time, the verified pass will hold Ron's #1 position.

We've also got a new 12 second entry, from Praylewd powr's Honda Civic. A 12.705 @ 116.21 mph is good for third spot on the list.

Some other changes to the list and minor shuffling of position. The bottom line is that EVERYONE moves down at least one peg, thanks to Ron. So, feel free to send him hate mail. ;)

Pitwipe is punted from the Top 10 list.

Even if you can't get onto the Top 10 list, submit your times for eligibility to the Sub-lists. See my post in the thread about this topic.

Z_Fan
05-15-2006, 03:15 PM
For clarification, in case it was unclear, the sub-lists will be their own lists. Each sub-list will be comprised of the top 10 as applicable to that specific category.

Fastest FWD ET would contain the 10 fastest entries received for FWD vehicles by ET.

Very few changes to announce to the status of the Top 10.

Firstly, welcome gpomp to the number 4 position with a fantastic run of 12.763 @ 110.3 mph at Race City. Just a bit faster to claim the spot of the fastest Civic on the list.

Z_Fan, that's me, improves the quarter mile time on the SRT-4 very slightly. No position change and still clutching on to the number two spot on the list.

95integra is punted from the list, due to gpomp bumping most people on the list down a notch. This pushes Sorath to the bump position on the Top 10.

I know I promised sub-lists, and I can generate them quite easily. However, there is really no point in doing so until there are enough entries to make the lists meaningful. I will however publish the master listing, and a few sub-lists from entries received to date. There are very few entries, and unfortunately there are many people who would qualify for positions on the list if they submitted there time slips.

Only one change to announce for this list update.

Shawley gets onto the list in the number 9 position with a 14.109 @ 98.63 in his Nissan Skyline. His run at Castrol Raceway pushes Sorath off the list. So, a Skyline is replaced with another Skyline.

With Sorath's exit from the Top 10, and Shawley grabbing number 9, that puts Revhard on the bump position.

Being that I am at the track every Friday, I know there are many cars eligible for this list running decent times. So, if you know the people in these cars, get them to participate and claim their positions on the list.

I figured they'd tell you at the tower that it was a free entry.

Anyhow, yeah, it is definitely a free entrance for next week (June 23) Secret Street. For sure. So, you should take your slip with you when you go. Worst case, you'll have to talk to Tamara at the front entrance - but she's wonderful and will definitely help you out.

Got that elusive 11 second timeslip for my SRT-4. :D

Friday June 30th
Castrol Raceway

Of my 13 passes which I got timeslips for, over half of them were faster than the previous quickest SRT-4 quarter mile run in Alberta of 12.06. (Travis @ Apex ran this in 2004 on a car using Nitrous.) Seven of my passes were quicker than that mark, including 4 passes in the 11's. I believe these to be the first 11 second passes made by an SRT-4 in Alberta. I'm also quite certain there will be others following very soon. My SRT-4 does not use nitrous as a power adder. ;)

Here are the two quickest passes that I ran.

http://www.turbocharge.ca/SRT4/SRT4_11p916at118p89.jpg

Density Altitude at 8PM 3667 feet
Temperature: 73.4F
Humidity: 31%
Track Elevation: 2200
Pressure: 29.99 in.

For the Alberta Fastest SCC / Imports, you have to back up 11.99 times with another slip within 0.25 seconds of the fastest time. So this next slip serves that purpose...

http://www.turbocharge.ca/SRT4/SRT4_11p954at118p03.jpg

Density Altitude at 9PM 3480 feet
Temperature: 69.8F
Humidity: 43%
Track Elevation: 2200
Pressure: 29.98 in.

Then the Density Altitude got better around 10PM. 2952 feet
Temperature: 62.6F
Humidity: 37%
Track Elevation: 2200
Pressure: 30.00 in.

Really that DA sucks for Edmonton. On a great day it's probably still 500 feet lower. (2400 feet realm) Wouldn't that be nice!

Oh well, I'll be up to Edmonton again some time, and hopefully the conditions will be better AND I can capitalize on that. Then perhaps I will be able to run a couple tenths quicker. I was hoping for an 11.79 timeslip. Just didn't happen...

Here is the update for the list, as promised.

1. Ron@Revolution, 1997 Eagle Talon, AWD, 11.51 @ 136.67, Castrol Raceway
2. Z_Fan, 2004 Dodge SRT-4, FWD, 11.916 @ 118.89, Castrol Raceway
3. chindian, 2004 Dodge SRT-4 ACR, FWD, 12.217 @ 116.71, Castrol Raceway
4. Praylewd powr, 1996 Honda Civic, FWD, 12.705 @ 116.21, Castrol Raceway
5. Rice_Eater, 2004 Dodge SRT-4, FWD, 12.754 @ 113.99, Race City
6. gpomp, 1995 Honda Civic DX, FWD, 12.763 @ 110.3, Race City
7. Lococoin, 1990 Honda civic dx Hatchback, FWD, 13.369 @ 105.25, Castrol Raceway
8. Go4Long, 1992 Eagle Talon, AWD, 13.397 @ 99.8, Race City
9. tsi_neal, 1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD, AWD, 13.577 @ 102.66, Race City
10. raceready68, 1993 Honda Civic HB B16A, FWD, 13.773 @ 102.41, Castrol Raceway

A few changes to announce to the list for the July 3rd, 2006 update.

(In order of position retained or claimed.)

First, Z_Fan runs the first ever 11 second pass by an SRT-4 in Alberta. There were actually several 11 second passes done on June 30th at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton. The best of which was an 11.916 @ 118.89 mph. This doesn't change position on the Top 10, but it does finally get the list its second 11 second car. Holding the #2 position by a very small margin.

Introducing chindian to the list in his very fast '04 Dodge SRT-4 ACR. This puppy ran a very quick 12.217 @ 116.71 mph. This is good enough for #3 spot on the list. Expect to see this car be the next SRT-4 into the 11 second realm. Don't be overly surprised if it eclipses my SRT-4 in the very near future. (You know, once UPS arrives!) chindian's pass effectively bumps everyone after the #3 position down a notch. Congrats on the run and I am anxiously awaiting your 11 second slip. Always nice to see 12 second submissions, especially low 12's.

Rice_Eater runs a new personal best also in an '04 Dodge SRT-4. Wow, you'd think these Neons are fast or something? Well, Rice_Eater runs a 12.754 @ 113.99 at Race City. If chindian didn't move everyone down a peg, this would have claimed fourth spot. However, this pass is good enough to bump gpomp down a peg and Rice_Eater hangs on to his #5 position. The list gets yet another 12 second submission.

Last but certainly not least, tsi_neal slides nicely into the #9 spot on the list. His 13.577 @ 102.66 at Race City snags another spot on the top 10. What is particularly impressive about his entry is that it comes with a perfect light. That's right. 0.000 reaction time. Congratulations on that achievement and welcome to the list.

With the inbound, we always have the outbound. Punted from the list are Shawley and his 1991 Nissan Skyline GTS-T. Also getting the boot is Revhard in his 2004 Acura RSX Type-S. You're going to need to run a fair bit quicker to get back onto the list.

With these changes to the list, the era of 14 second cars holding spots on the Top 10 list is officially over. Well, it was fun while it lasted. Keep in mind you can still submit any times you run under 14.99 for the master list and sub-lists to be published (at some point). So feel free to submit your personal best times even if they don't make the Top 10.

And that, well that would be your update.

Yup. There are actually 7 SRT-4's that I know of that have run faster times than the current #10 time. If they submitted slips, there would be 7 of 10 spots filled by SRT-4's...

I think only a few SRT-4's will be on the list by the year end. But definitely a couple of them are going to hang on to spots somewhere in the list. That's for certain, especially considering I believe all the SRT-4's on the list currently CAN and WILL run faster by the year end.

Yes. Yes you do. Your car is faster yet, so you just need to go get some timeslips.

True. With luck the Red Civic will run and submit a slip for a mid 11 pass. That'd be nice.

D.A. changes greatly on the same track, forget about from track to track. This topic was discussed and resolved. I went up to Edmonton and the DA was higher (3667 feet for my 11.91 run) despite the major elevation shift. So, unlucky me. But I will go again, and hopefully it will be better weather.

The reality is that you can not apply a single conversion factor between tracks because the D.A. is different for every single run of every single night at every single track. This is well beyond the intended scope of this list.

To review what was decided at the end of last year. (Taken from this thread: http://forums.780tuners.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32596)

Elevation advantage and conversion factors. Well, let's pretend we didn't even think about this. It goes beyond what the scope of the list should be. Setting the primary focus as the Alberta community, and therefore in essence limiting eligible runs to Castrol Park, Race City or Medicine Hat, we've effectively contained the available elevation advantage significantly yet we've also successfully given reasonable opportunity for access to equality in track preparation and elevation. [This is simply by the exclusion of other tracks, located in other provinces or states, etc.] It is clear that the track in Edmonton is better maintained, has a lower elevation than Calgary, and cars will run quicker at that facility if all other factors are equal. While that may hold true, the nice thing is that Calgary and Edmonton are close enough that if someone feels the perceived advantage of a specific track is worthy of pursuit, then that person has the option of driving to another track to do their runs. Some will say this provides Edmontonians with a distinct advantage for ease of access to a faster track. Yup. Bonus for Edmontonians.

Have a busy schedule, so this is getting updated just a bit before the planned time.

A couple changes to the Top 10 for the July 31st update.

First, SilverBoost grabs a spot on the list in his 2002 Nissan Sentra SPEC-V. A 13.511 @ 101.64 mph achieved at Race City on slicks. Good job. With that run, SilverBoost sneaks onto the list in the #9 position.

We've also got another 12 second time to add to the list. Lococoin improves his time in his 1990 Honda Civic at Castrol Raceway. The significant improvement of 0.827 seconds quicker means he leaps up from 7th spot to 4th spot. That means a lot of folks get bumped a notch, yet again.

Congrats on your runs guys.

With those updates, we of course have some bad news. Raceready68 and his 1993 Honda Civic gets booted from the Top 10 list. This leaves tsi_neal and his 1992 Eagle Talon TSI hanging on to the bump position.

That concludes the update. The next list update will be posted on August 14th from entries received by August 13th, 2006.

Sub-lists / Outlaws - July 31st, 2006

Sublists. Well, there was a lot of talk about how important it was to have sub-lists, and as you may recall there were numerous posts on 780tuners about how the sublists should be categorized. There simply is not enough participation to justify sublists at this point. So, any update to sublists during the course of the year is officially abandoned for 2006. Please note, at the END of the year, sub-lists will be generated from the Master entries list. It is only periodic updates that will not occur, as there isn't enough participation to warrant the effort to generate them.

There has been no Outlaw slip submitted to this date. Which, frankly is what I would have expected. But we needed to do the trial to see if there was genuine interest, as some folks indicated they should be [or would like to have been] included. By the general lack of participation in this department, I've decided keeping track of cars that are not SCC is to be completely and officially abandoned for 2006.

Master Entry List:

1.Ron@Revolution, 1997 Eagle Talon, AWD, 11.51 @ 136.67, Castrol Raceway
2.Z_Fan, 2004 Dodge SRT-4, FWD, 11.916 @ 118.89, Castrol Raceway
3.chindian, 2004 Dodge SRT-4 ACR, FWD, 12.217 @ 116.71, Castrol Raceway
4.Lococoin, 1990 Honda civic dx Hatchback, FWD, 12.542 @ 114.76, Castrol Raceway
5.Praylewd powr, 1996 Honda Civic, FWD, 12.705 @ 116.21, Castrol Raceway

8.Go4Long, 1992 Eagle Talon, AWD, 13.397 @ 99.8, Race City
9.SilverBoost, 2002 Nissan Sentra SPEC-V, FWD, 13.511 @ 101.64, Race City

13.Revhard, 2004 Acura RSX Type-S, FWD, 14.128 @ 98.95, Race City
14.Sorath, 1990 Nissan Skyline GTS-T Type M, RWD, 14.39 @ 97.42, Race City

This week we've got something special for everyone.

I've come up with this hypothetical update to the list, read and enjoy.

Some new faces hit the Top 10 this week. Some very impressive times are being laid down by surprisingly quick Front Wheel Drive vehicles. Let's start with the newcomers to the list.

We've got Can't Stop Spinning who ran a 12.573 at a blistering 121.86 mph in his Dodge SRT-4 at Castrol Raceway. Normally that would be good enough to take 5th spot on the list. But another newcomer to the list gave us yet another 11 second entry. That's right, vr6T laid down an 11.928 @ 125.50 mph. This is good enough to slide into 3rd spot, narrowly missing second. (AKA, me!) That entry ofcourse bumps everyone down a peg.

Chindian improves his time from 12.2 to 12.09 with the addition of slicks. Because vr6T bumped pretty much everyone down a peg, Chindian now finds himself improving his time but falling down the list to #4.

Another newcomer to the list is Limey. Limey laid down a pass of 12.838 at 114.83 mph in his Dodge SRT-4. Wow, with all these Dodge's on the list, you'd think they might have potential or something?! With all our new additions to the list, it now would take a 12.838 to get onto the top 10 list!

Oh, but wait, we've got Ham Sammich who laid down a 12.609 @ 114.54 in his Dodge SRT-4. My god, the list is being over run by Dodge SRT-4's. Wow! It's a good thing the update is only hypothetical.

Honorable mention for this week would include Silverboost, who nearly dived into the 12's in Calgary with a fantastic run in his Nissan Sentra SE-R SPEC-V. He laid down a 13.17 @ 105 mph in Calgary. Additional honorable mention goes to, well, me, for beating up on a Ford GT down the quarter mile. Not because the SRT4 is fast, but because the Ford GT wasn't driven well - or so the story goes. The SRT-4 ran a 12.08 on a radial tire, not too shabby.

Well, that'd be the hypothetical update - IF YOU GUYS SUBMITTED SOME TIME DAMN SLIPS, it'd be REALITY!

...

So, no timeslips submitted, and therefore no changes have been made to the list. Get your slips in guys, please and thank you! The list is an "official" list, and part of making it "official" is having timeslips. So, keep 'em, scan 'em, photograph 'em, whatever and post 'em up!

Next update will be September 11th from slips received on or before September 10th.

You have to go back a couple of years before you find a Top 10 where the slowest car on it was running a 12.7x time. The last two years have seen the Top 10 improve ever so slightly, with 12.6x times rounding out the field.

The year is far from over, with two Street Car Challenges ahead of us – one in Edmonton on September 16th, and one in Calgary on October 7th – I think in 2006, we’re guaranteed to see the fastest Top 10 list ever produced for the Sport Compact / Import community in recent years.

On the last update, you only needed a 13.577 time to get onto the Top 10 list. Unfortunately for those aspiring to get onto the list, it’s going to get a whole hell of a lot harder after the impending update. The new target for those seeking fame on the list will be well into the 12’s.

Keep those timeslips coming.

Rice Eater, Can't Stop Spin - send me your slips guys so your positions can be accurately represented in the next update.

One Big Update:

There has been much to update on this go-around. Some super impressive times from the Sport Compact / Import community in Calgary & Edmonton. This one is big, so let’s get started shall we…might want to set some time aside as this isn’t a short update. OR, just look at the Top 10 in the first post and go, “Holy Crap!”

We’ll start with a 14 sceond entry for baker_jeff. His 1990 Honda CR-X SiR ran 14.014 @ 104mph at Castrol Raceway. So close to the 13’s – a slightly improved 60 foot and 13’s are yours for the taking. Thanks for the entry, and the master list is published (in thread) monthly. I’ll post it up after this post though, so you can see it right away.

Chindian bested my time in his SRT-4. That’s right, he laid down a pass of 11.914 @ 121 mph on September 1st. At the time he ran it, it was good enough to steal the #2 position by 0.002. Two one thousandths of a second is the difference. How very sweet for him, and how incredibly crappy #2, AKA – for me. But, that’s racing, and major congratulations go his way for setting the fastest pass by an SRT-4 in Calgary (and Alberta) – ever. Well, until September 8th happened…which is why Chindian is in the #3 spot on the Top 10 with his 11.914. Expect more out of Chindian when he runs at the SCC in Edmonton next week. I think 11.8’s, possibly even 11.7’s out of this car will be seen before the year is over.

Newcomer to the list this week is Autodream’s S14. Nguyen at the wheel in the 240sx laid down a pass of 12.559 @ 118.48 in Calgary. Good run, congratulations. I think even faster times are going to come from this car, just give it a little more traction as it has the MPH for 11’s. This pass takes the #7 spot on the Top 10.

We’ve also got two time improvements by other folks already holding positions on the list. Can’t Stop Spin improved to a 12.2x time, and Rice Eater improved to a 12.3x time. Since Rice Eater didn’t submit his slip to me, he’s pretty much fallen off the list. So, get me the slip buddy. Don’t want people running around saying your car is slow now do ya? Rice Eater winds up on the bump position after all the shuffling. Well, let’s talk about the slip we did receive…

Can’t Stop Spin improved his personal best by a few tenths, and moves further up the list. His 12.236 @ 120.90 is good to snag the #5 position on the list. Excellent run, and I think it’s fair to say you definitely will see 11’s out of that machine, and that’s exciting! You’ll be the fifth 11 second entry when you do it, and I can think of 2 more 11 second cars just waiting to happen…WOW! Imagine 7 spots tied up by 11 second cars! Holy shit!

Another Newcomer to the list is calgarysrt4. Recently installing Stage 3 into his 2004 Dodge SRT-4, he ran a 12.745 @ 114.73 his first evening out with his hardware upgrades. Good enough to slide gracefully into the #9 spot.

And now, perhaps some news that is almost as disgusting as Chindian stealing (albeit temporarily) my #2 position. Silverboost, who’s been on the list for quite a while, ran a 12.97 in his Nissan Sentra SE-R SPEC-V at Race City. Trapping at 107.21 mph, this run should have claimed a spot on the Top 10. However, it’s not good enough to grace the list. A true tragedy – and so I’ve decided to start to publish the honorable mention list, which I have done in the past while maintaining the Top 10 list. The honorable mention list keeps track of the next 5 fastest cars – those narrowly missing the Top 10 list. Great run Silverboost, Great run! It might not be on the list, but this is the to my knowledge the fastest pass made by a SPEC-V in Alberta. Congrats again.

Another fast pass was made by Phil, aka notaturbotalon, who ran a 12.848 @ 108 mph at Castrol Raceway in Edmonton. An excellent time, yet again due to the number of new submissions and time improvements, it also doesn’t earn a position on the Top 10. But, it will show up on the honorable mention list for now, and congrats on that pass.

Let’s step back in time to September 1st, when Chindian ran a blistering 11.914 in his SRT-4. Claiming the fastest SRT-4 time in Alberta – ever. (Taking it away from, well, me!) That mark was improved upon on September 8th, 2006 – when my SRT-4 put down a pass of 11.902. We’re getting quite close to the golden 11.84 required to claim the fastest time by a FWD, ever, in an Alberta FWD Street Car. Wow! Just Wow! Someone will do it this year, I guarantee that – possible several cars will break that mark – but only ONE will set the new record and keep it. In any case, my 11.902 pass reclaims the time for the fastest SRT-4 in Alberta, and means I retain the #2 position on the list with the SRT-4. Barely.

VR6T is really hopping along in his Rabbit. Trapping at nearly 130mph, he’s going to be the big dog, errrr, Big Bunny, of FWD vehicles on the list once he nails the launches. Expect to see this car not only run 11’s, but expect this car to be the one that is most capable of setting a new record for Fastest FWD pass. No time slip from this car yet, but it’s coming in due time. So, everyone on the list might well expect to get bumped down yet another position. This is just a heads-up for those already on the list.

After much debate [amongst myself, because I’m crazy], I’ve decided to submit a time slip for my Z. [see 780tuners thread for slips] I wasn’t going to, because I haven’t had it out enough to sort out the car – but it has run a couple high 11 second passes, and I figured with such a mega-update this week, I’d finally get the Z put onto the list. So, that gives us our fourth 11 second car. The Z ran an 11.988 @ 117.69 mph at Race City on July 28th, 2006…this run is good enough to grab the #4 position. The car wasn’t even running right. The Z actually ran 11.89, which is faster obviously, but no back-up pass was made, as I went home that night to get the SRT-4 and race it. Oh well. No time for the Z this year, as the focus is clearly my SRT-4.

So, that’s a lot of number juggling and positions being moved up and down on the list. The list is extremely competitive this year, and with many very fast cars expected to be running at the Street Car Challenges in Edmonton next weekend, and Calgary in early October, you can be guaranteed we’re going to be seeing more fast times by those on the list, as well as those who have yet to run. It’s going to be awesome!

On to the bad news. The list is really quite difficult to get onto now. You need to run a 12.754 just to obtain the 10th spot. The lowest trap speed on the Top 10 is 113.99. Crazy.

Bumped from the list are gpomp, Go4long, SilverBoost and tsi_neal. Wow guys, sorry about that. That’s probably the most people to ever be bumped at once from a list update.

NOTICE:
I will be going to the Street Car Challenge. Many fast cars will be there, and many will want to submit time slips. I’m going to bring my digital camera, and I can photograph your slip for you – to save from the hassle of scanning/photo taking/posting and e-mailing at a later date. If you have a slip you’d like to get in from that Friday night, or from the SCC event, this may be convenient for you, so feel free to take advantage of this offer.

The next list update will be posted on September 18th from entries received by September 17th, 2006. This is to allow for an immediate list update after the Street Car Challenge in Edmonton, Alberta on September 16th, 2006.

Because the Street Car Challenge in Edmonton is going to be pushed back one day, all the dates listed in earlier posts with respect to the next update are extended by one day.

SCC in Edmonton is September 17th, 2006.

No slips received, the big SCC event cancelled. No racing in Calgary either. No racing next week (Sept 22nd) in Calgary due to a private function.

Not too many opportunities left to run. If you're fast, better get out while you can and get some timeslips.

Next update will be October 1st (or 2nd) from slips received before September 30th.

Thanks for the props Z-fan! Yeah, I finally break into the 12's and it's not even good enough to stay on the top 10, let alone advance further on the list.

That's a great testament though to how quick the cars are getting around here. Amazing to see all those 12 second runs on street legal 4 bangers - not to mention the 11 second club.

Anyway, I appreciate the Honourable Mention List.... now I can still grasp onto a little of my 15 minutes of fame. :D Guess I'll have to turn the boost up.

I was running 10psi on that pass, but last night I went out and I guess the cold mayb be affecting it a little, I dunno, but that 10psi is now 12 psi. Hopefully the block will hold up. But I gotta get back on that list. I mean, what's the worst that can happen.... I have to rebuild my block anyhow maybe just a little sooner if I blow it apart. :D

Anyhow, see if I can get out once more before the end of the year.

This is a pretty big update once again. The year is winding down fairly quickly here, but it seems there are still several goals that people would like to see fulfilled before the racing season officially expires. Good luck and be safe.

The list should be called Alberta’s Quickest Import / Sport Compact Cars. Simply because the lists primary purpose is to show who runs the lowest ET. In many cases, that doesn’t accompany the highest MPH for the vehicle. We’d actually need two separate lists to track that. Ironically, for the last several years we’ve referred to the list as Alberta’s Fastest when in fact it is Alberta’s Quickest.

If it were to truly be both, it would be Alberta’s Quickest & Fastest. Two databases would need to be established. You see where I am going with this, or perhaps you do not. The idea of sub-lists showing highest MPH, for example, is not truly indicative of reality unless multiple submissions per vehicle were accepted. Same thing about sub-lists showing best 60 foots. My bests, for example, aren’t necessarily in my quickest ET. It goes on and on and on…bottom line, we can generate sub-lists from the quickest ET time slips, however, they will not necessarily represent everyone’s personal bests in the specific category, except for ET. Kind of makes the point of sub-lists trivial IMO.

Some amazing shit is happening this year, and people are smashing records all over the place. It’s absolutely nuts and tells you how fast the cars are really getting. The list, after this update, will be the quickest list ever and it’s very impressive. When I speak of records, I’m speaking in terms of AFAIK from the information I have available to me.

Ron @ Revolution laid down a 10.6. The video is online. This is the first 10 second pass, that I am aware of, made by an Alberta Import / Sport Compact on an Alberta Track. The pass was not backed up – due to rain – which saw many competitors leave Castrol on Friday night. This pass is not currently eligible for the list, as it is not backed up – or more appropriately, I am waiting for the back-up pass information time slip/video has not yet been received. You have 30 days to run 10.87 or quicker to have this pass stand. On your mark, get set, start wrenching…and now I’ll quickly change the subject.

We’ll continue with vr6T. This Volkswagen Rabbit pushing 500+whp has it sorted out now, and ran some very fast times. The “Bunny” is the undisputed king of FWD. 11.023 @ 127.53 is the time for the list with a back-up pass of 11.14 @ 133.07. Nearly diving into the 10’s, the passes made on September 30th by this car set the following records:

Fastest FWD pass in Alberta.
Quickest FWD pass in Alberta.

The time captures the number one position on the list, and since it is a new entry, everyone on the list is pushed down yet another spot.

ITLGO, my little Dodge SRT-4 went 11.371 @ 126.97 mph. A dry 35 shot of nitrous responsible for the time improvement. Not my fastest pass, but my quickest. The time captures the number two position on the list. This time set’s the following records:

Quickest 4-Cyl FWD pass in Alberta.
Quickest SRT-4 in Canada.

Can’t Stop Spinning ran an 11.452 @ 128.02 mph. This pass is good enough to grab the number three position on the list. A 128.22 mph trap speed on another pass represents his current best MPH. This time sets the following records:

Fastest 4-Cyl FWD pass in Alberta.
Fastest SRT-4 in Canada.

Collins, a new entry to the list, ran a 12.262 @ 117.63 in his 2005 Dodge SRT-4 ACR. This pass snags the number seven spot on the list, and occurred in Calgary at Race City on September 29th, 2006.

TedStriker, also a new entry to the list, ran a 12.473 @ 114.88 in his Dodge SRT-4. This pass grabs the number eight spot on the list, and occurred in Edmonton at Castrol Raceway on September 29th, 2006.

GoChris, another new entry to the list, ran 12.676 @ 117.27 in his 2004 Dodge SRT-4. This pass, unfortunately, falls short of the Top 10, however, it will land on the first position of the honorable mention list. Great pass, get some slicks and you’ll be on the list, as this pass was done with drag radials.

Limey, another new entry to the list, ran 12.722 @ 118.84 in his 2003 Dodge SRT-4 at Castrol Raceway. This entry also falls short of the Top 10, however it will find a spot on the honorable mention list. Good pass, lots more left in this car though.

Due to there being so many fast cars, and so many new entries, the entire Honorable Mention list from the last update is pushed completely off of the list! Wow! That’s absolutely crazy!

So, we say “asta la vista” to tsi_neal, Go4Long, SilverBoost, notaturbotalon and gpomp. Wow, just wow! The entire Honorable Mention crew gets ousted. Ouch, that’s gotta hurt.

Ok, let the craziness begin…ready, set, GO!

Cool! Looks like I still have lots of work to do for next year. I just ordered a ACT 6 puck race clutch, so we'll see how that holds up. Thanks for the work on this list, you must spend alot of time scanning timeslips. I think next year we'll have alot of SRT's in the 11's, with one or two in the 10's perhaps.

Next year - freakin low 12's... maybe high 11s. Since I gained over a second from my best time last year, I'd say it can be done. Time to go pick some more cash off the money tree.

A couple of updates for the list this time around.

Firstly, an old school Neon ran 11.2's at Race City on Friday October 13th. No time-slips for this car, but worthy to note it's out there and it's damn fast. It's not a Neon motor, but a Stratus dropped into the Neon...well, whatever, it's crazy quick.

Silverboost ran a new personal best in his Sentra SPEC-V. That's right, he pushed it a little further into the 12's with a 12.894 @ 107.90 mph. This doesn't make the Top 10 or honorable mention, but it's worthy to note what the fastest SPEC-V around is running at the track.

Darryl @ Subracing gets "Black Sunshine" on to the list with an 11.482 @ 123.28 mph. The 1991 Eagle Talon TSi backed that pass up with other runs, including an 11.534 @ 121.49 mph. These runs were at the SCC in Calgary. Good job Darryl, and the 11.482 lands in the #4 position on the Top 10.

GoChris is learning how to launch with his...errr...my slicks, and has improved his time by a solid three tenths. He goes from the bump position on the list up to #8 spot with a 12.357 @ 116.58 mph at Race City on October 13th. Nice run there!

This pushes Lococoin to the bump (#10) position on the Top 10, and Rice_Eater to the bottom of the honorable mention list. We say good-bye to gpomp's Honda Civic from the 15th spot. Hard to believe that a 12.763 run isn't good enough for 15th place! Crazy quick cars out there this year.

Well, that would be your update - and with the season already finished in Edmonton, and very likely to be finished soon in Calgary, it looks like the list is pretty close to final. I'll be accepting submissions for one week after Race City announces it is done for the year, and then we'll make the list officially official...<smile>

It's worthy to note there are other very quick cars in Alberta. Notably absent from the list is a screaming fast Neon that ran a few 11.2's in Calgary at the last Secret Street event of the year. No timeslips were received for that vehicle.

In addition, Ron's AWD Talon ran a 10.6 pass in Edmonton. Unfortunately that pass is not eligible for the list as no back-up pass was made as the Talon broke shortly thereafter. Ron's car was removed from the list at his personal request.

It's evident that the Dodge SRT-4 dominates this list. 60% of the cars in the top 5 are SRT-4s (3/5) and that can be said for the Top 10 (6/10) and the Top 15 (9/15). What is most impressive is that the SRT-4's are the only cars appearing in the Top 5 that aren't built motors [AFAIK the others are built]. All the SRT-4's on this list are running stock internals. Wow! Absolutely Incredible. The list is a real life testament to the amazing build strength of the factory SRT-4 block.

Well I ran a 12 second pass, I'm one of the top 20 fastest imports in Alberta and I didn't have to buy an SRT-4 to do it. I'm happy for this year. ;) :D

Good summer of racing. See y'all in the spring - can't wait to see what everyone spent their winter saving up for.

Is it wrong that I'm already looking forward to that and want winter over, like now. :)

Feel the same way that is all that's stopping me from installing my turbo kit and getting the civic tuned.
