Hey everyone,
im new to beyond and just wanted to get some opinions on my car! Its a 1985 Mazda RX-7 Widebody. The modifications as of now are: CP racing widebody kit, with Turbo whale tail spoiler, sumitomo 315/35/17 rear tires, 275/40/17 fronts, Racing beat springs, tokico blue struts, RB front sway bar, Current engine is a 12a stockport (going to be upgraded REALLY SOON), weber 45dcoe with ramflo filter, RB upper and lower intake manifolds, full racing beat exhaust. Full interior swap from another RX7, full electrical swap, new radiator, Carter fuel pump, holley fuel pressure regulator, momo race steering wheel, the list goes on and on, but this is all I remember at the moment.

Future plans: 17x12 rear and 17x10 front CCW Classic rims (saving up the money right now...), Megasquirt/haltech/microtech standalone, Ford 9" torsen differential, TII engine/trans combination. I plan on rebuilding the motor myself, with a large streetport, FMIC, T3/T4 turbo (still undecided), 3" exhaust, etc etc etc....

Let me know what you guys think!

:werd: Looks like some of your neighbours won't be able to get out of their driveways haha. Your car is pretty nice, although I'm not liking the look of the widebody kit. Keep us updated on this project:thumbsup: .

Haha ya I took the pictures a month or two ago after the huge snowfall. Its hard to tell in the picture but the snow is all in the middle of the culdisac (sp?) so they can still get out. It did take me a little time to get used to the look of the HUGE widebody, but I think the rims will bring it all together!

Here is a teaser picture of what the rims looks like http://www.ccwheel.com/files/gallery/chevrolet/c3corvette/classic/1l.jpg

Thanks for the comments, I am somewhat making this car a racecar, but at the same time I would like to keep it street legal. My goal is around 400 RWHP+, which should make it a good weekend warrior at the track as well.

that's amazing, my hockey coach when I was a little(er) guy built a car just like that, back in the early 80's when the car was still new. He had finished it, drove it once(!!) and it was stolen the next day and never recovered. Your car really brings me back! haha

Yours looks great. Maybe a little wide for my tastes but very cool.

i think u need to match the rear end with the look of everything else, the rear shot kinda makes the car look older compared to the rest of the shots, im guessing its stilll a huge work in progress tho, looks awesome, good job:thumbsup:

Show some before pics of the body too.

I purchased the car as a unfinished rolling chassis project car. When I picked the car up it was damn dirty though, as it had been sitting for a couple years, ill post a couple pictures of that. All the body work on this car was professionally done, as the previous owner of the car's father owned a body shop. Without a doubt there is flaws that can be seen on close inspection, but i've NEVER seen a black car that does not have imperfections. Also you never see vehicles with this much body work in the first place...

I'll post a few pictures of what my last RX-7 donor car looked like. The story behind me buying this widebody relates to how I was going to get my other car painted. Turns out for the price of getting my other car painted I got the widebody, which was already painted, and just transfered everything from the one car over to the other. Very honestly I couldn't tell you how much all this body work would have costed, I just know I could never afford it.

When I picked the car up:

My old RX-7, RIP:

So once again, I don't claim on doing all the body work myself, it was all professionally done by the previous owners father. I just picked the unfinished car up for a great deal, and had all the parts that the car was in need of! Alot of man hours go into doing body work like this, I wouldn't be surprised if to replicate the body work on this car would be $6000+.

Its going to take a little while, if I had the money I could have it done in almost no time, but its going to take alot of saving. I am going to need the rims, TII engine, tranny, custom driveshaft, 9" diff housing with custom axle shafts, ECU, turbo, 3" exhaust, intercooler, intercooler piping, and the list goes on... I am going to start working full time in a couple weeks here, so thats when the saving up will begin!

Dude, I'm lovin that car! That is seriously one of the best lookin early 7's I've seen in a while! I'm lovin the widebody. My uncle had one like that and did a slantnose porsche widebody kit on it and dropped in a 400 SB. The thing flew but couldn't corner anymore, hence him rolling it. Are you gonna get that much power from a 12a? If so SUPER props! I woulda thought at least 13B or better yet 20B. I look forward to seeing that one the road and at the track!
BTW: your passenger rear tire is on backwards

Holy crap thats hot.

I wonder what a widebody would look like on a 2nd gen rx-7.

04-24-2006, 04:07 PM
Haha I know the rear tire was on wrong, I just threw them in the wheel wells to get an idea of how they will sit. The pictures shown here I have taken over the last 4 or so months, so it has taken ALOT of work to get it to where it is right now. And to answer the question, no I don't plan on getting that kind of power from a 12a, it is possible. But I plan on doing a TII swap and then upgrading the turbo, FMIC, Standalone, etc etc... I think that will give me the best reliable, driveable power.

If I bridge ported the 12a and threw a turbo on it, 400 hp would be possible, but once again not very streetable when the power band goes from 7000 rpms - over 10k. And I am for sure keeping this thing as a rotary, I love the engine, and I love the styling of the car. A RX-7 was my first car, and I have fallen in love with everything rotary!

 That movie rules

Usually I'm a fan of clean looking non-kitted cars, but for some reason I'm feeling the RX. Just sitting there it looks angry...like it just wants to lay a couple black strips down the road and tear off into the distance while screaming at the top if it's lungs :D

Wow...I was in California last June and I saw a car EXACTLY like that. I am not even joking, when I saw the pics first, I looked on the side to check if you were from US. Thought might be the same one. But anyways, it's coming along real good. Looking good.
