Hey guys, how abouts would I go hooking up a canon mini dv camcorder to my computer? I don't think there is a usb cable that can connect it to the computer. There are the standard A/V cables. Is there a device that plugs into the usb and then converts it to A/V? Where and how much if there is, thanks.

Okay, are you running with windows XP?
if so you should have a program called windows movie maker
that is the program you will use to transfer/edit/burn you movie.

if you are not running with XP, then you need to get some software. Pinnical studio is a good one, starts at about 60-70 bucks for entry lvl program.

Hardware wise, do you have a firewire card? and a firewire cable (4 pin to 6 pin). The 4 pin end goes into the DV port on the camcorder (looks like a square) and the 6 pin end goes into firewire card.

after that, plug the camcorder in, fire up the program, let the computer detect the camcorder, push play on camcorder, record on comp, wait out the hr of tape and edit away.
