Its about that time again boys and girls. Just finished selling my car to a fellow beyonder. Was really thinking about dropping from the "fun car" scene and getting into an SUV but I just can't do it. So I'm looking for another nice toy.

A breif history of what I owned and a subjective personal rating to let you know my tastes...

'99 E46 323i - 7/10
'02 TL-S - 6/10
'00 S2000 - 8/10
'03 z33 (perf. pack) - 8/10

Just took an '03 g35 coupe out for a spin and liked it vs. the 350z, not totally set on that as my next car but the combo of fun and practicality has it in the neavy lead at this point.

Another others ideas? Probably have to go with an auto so wifey can drive it so keep that in mind. Let me know what else you guys think I should be taking a look at sub $40K.

Yah go for the G35c, or an E39 M5 if you can find one in your price range, best family, fun, ass hauler, tire burning car out there :)

oh btw, my dad just picked up a brand new, 06 TL, 3.2L *hgauls ass*, everything minus navi cause it would piss him off, for $43k, brand new with 21 km's on the clock. You may be able to pickup a Demo or somethig for sub 40k or fancy pulling a few more bills out. They are definatly fun cars. My dad choose it over the G35x and the Audi A4, comfy, sportyish, sexy styling, good power. I like it :)

G35 wouldn't be bad since you haven't owned one before but theres so many out there

Not a huge fan of the "look" but I did think about those a bit, questionable performance vs. gas consumption also a turn off for me. Maybe i should give one a drive though..

I'm loving the value prop of the car, only the 350z is better but for some reason the g35couops retain their value extremely well vs the 350.

Oooo, M5 very nice but your right very tough to find. I'll keep an eye out though that would be a nice one, probably have to get into the mid 40s though for a newer e39

Yeah if i was gonna go 4 door that would be the one (maybe second to the new lexus IS). I really like that car, and i think there are a few out there to be had for a decent price. Maybe I'll driveone.

Simple reason man, the G35 is the luxury version of the 350 which is the reason that they hold their value a bit better. Pimp ride for sure though!

To be honest, I don't think a G35 will be all that much different from your 350Z.

Budget wise and car wise, I think I'm in close to the same situation as you and I'm thinking about springing for a new Miata. They're completely redesigned - pretty good bang for your buck - HID's, 6-Speed, LSD, Heated Leather Seats, etc. Plus they're one of the best handling cars hands down.

2 Door gunmetal G35 is a beautiful car. The new TL and most Lexus IS are out of your budget range.

Yeah took a look at another s2k but I def have to stay with an autoso that car's out. You're right there are a few g35's out there but not anymore than there are other cars in this price range, E46 coupes, TLs, IS300s, 350s ect.

Although I do like the new MX5 I can not do a miata, I got enough flak about my red s2000 being a "girly miata".

I dont mind that color but honestly that color is my second last choice behind the beige.

THanks for the heads up on that but you're right, what your asking is out of my range. I honestly dont find that car $15,000 better than the 350 or the g35 (total personal comment). Very nice looking though, just not for me.

If you need an auto, don't buy the G35. The G35 automatics are pretty slow. Totally different than the 350z/G35 manaul.

For that price range, and auto, C32 AMG!

A good car that's almost EXACTLY $35k, is still fun as hell and is a great all year car is a Subaru WRX. Reliable as a wood burning stove, absolutely INCREDIBLE driving feel, yet still comfortable and can haul a full load of groceries. And if you're fuel concious, you can use the semi-auto shift to shift up before the turbo hits. :)

There's also the Mazda MX-5 if you want a pure fun car :) (and it can come as auto or 6 speed manual at this price range) It's slower than an S2000 but still gobbles corners, has incredible driving feel and is still not exactly SLOW, just slower than an S :D You can haggle for a 6 speed GS with hard top for around $34-36k, so that's right in your price bracket.

Not a huge fan of "new" cars I just can't justify the 20% hit within the first year. I only keep my cars for a year or two at most and have been dropping like 200 a month max on them. Can't justify spending 35,000 on a new, lesser car and have to sell it for a loss of closer to 500-700 a month down the road.

A used 02+ WRX is still good value. And I know for a fact that they sold a lot of the shiftronic (or whatever they call it for Subaru) models, so they shouldn't be overly hard to find if you like Subarus.

Try get a 99/00 M Roadster !!

They look awesome! ( I still like it more then Z4 ) and so much fun to drive! and not many of them around ... not common as 3series, G35 or 350Z ...

Actually, same M Coupe are awesome car too .. but not everyone likes their weird style .. :dunno:

Thanks everyone for their input I've landed on a G35C, red on black, 26,000kms. Comments on other cars mentioned and why I shied away from them...

WRX - not a fan of the style at all but did do everythig i needed, woulda looked to the STI actually but doesn't come in auto (for good reason)

C32 - again not a fan of the styling not agressive enough vs. the regular C-class for me

Boxster - too bare bones for me, a buddy has one and i dont like it at all, a poor value prop imo

MRoaster/Coupe - would love the coupe but they are impossible to find AND a bitch to get fixed.
