I love this car but it is getting pretty rusty now. Will need to have all its paint stripped and redone, plus some rust repairs around the wheel wells.

Very rare car! I read that only 2,500 were imported into North America. Only imported for one year (1980).

Engine is an all-aluminum 3.5 litre (215 cu.in) V8, with multi-port fuel injection. Starts and runs well but probably could use a tune up. This is the same engine as a Buick 215 (Rover bought the rights from Buick in '65, IIRC). Has a very solid 5-speed trany.

Comes with a nearly complete but ratty parts car (body is in pretty good shape, but bad interior and no engine).

I was planning on redoing this car, but no time for projects anymore and my wife is "encouraging me" to get rid of them.

Email, PM or call me if you are interested, or for more info...

See the attached OLD pics. More pics found here:

Wow, Never thought I would see one of these. My dad owned one in the 80's and thought it was fantastic.

I could only seem to attach one pic. I can provide others upon request.

The Rover SD1/3500 makes and incredibly comfortable long-distance cruiser (they were called "SD1" in England because it was the first car spawned by Rover's Specialist Division). This is the last "true" Rover car as all the newer models were partnerships with other companies, such as Honda (Honda provided the engine, Rover the body).

In England they were used as Police cars for many years. When production ceased in '87, the police stockpiled a ton of them so that they could continue to use them for some time. Apparently they had difficulty finding a suitable replacement.

Additionally, the British Secret Service used a fleet of them as "blockers" to protect the Royal family. The purpose of these cars were to intercept any vehicle getting close to a Royal family vehicle and crash into it if needs be. The Rover was chosen because it was fast and nearly indestructable.

For sure, not many on the roads anymore... I haven't seen any for years.

A pic of the front.
(note that the front end was copied from the Ferrari Daytona, which is why it might appear familiar!).

Has the following standard features:

- moonroof (metal - not glass)
- Power windows
- Power doors
- Power Steering
- Air Conditioning (could use a charge)
- Cast aluminum wheels (14")
- Bosch H4 headlights

It also has an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM Cassette deck with detachable faceplate - probably 10 yrs old.

Work done in the past 5 yrs:

- New radiator
- New fuel hoses
- New spark plug wires
- Rebuilt clutch master cylinder and slave.

I believe it should pass a safety inspection.

I thought they were gonna bury you in this car. Never thought you'd sell it...

:)

Marriage and hobbies don't mix!

I came to realize that I would never have time to work on this car in the 2 hours / year that I have permission to work on such things! :)

The Rovers are still for sale...

Came very close to selling them a few times, but they're still here.

I put up quite a few more photos at the following site:

Feel free to give me shout if you are even slightly interested:

Located in Abbeydale, NE Calgary.

I should point out that Rimmer Brothers has a big sale on Rover SD1 parts right now, so it is a good time to purchase one.

Thanks,

Greg
