I have a 1980 VW Rabbit for sale. The following are some of the modifications that have been done to the car:
- Lowered with springs and aftermarket struts,
- 1997 Jetta 7-spoke wheels
- 1986 1.8l engine
- Full repaint with undercoating
- 1984 GTI interior
- Full 2" TT exhaust
- Dual outlet exhaust manifold into TT's race pipe
- 4k trans.
- Shaved front sidemakers and rear wiper
- Quad grille and lights
- 16 v fender flares
- Black Euro bumpers
- etc.
Selling the car not because I want to, I just simply don't have the means of keeping it here in Calgary so it has been stored elsewhere for 1.5 years. If I had the room I would undoubtable keep it. It has been a great car and exceptionally fun to drive.
Condition:
There are things requiring fixing on the car. Obviously this car is 26 years old and will need work and maintenance, but when I used it (practically as daily driver) I only had a fuel pump go.
I am assuming this car will sell to a VW enthusiast as only these people will value the vehicle for what it is.
Anyways, from what I can remember here are some of the issues the vehicles has:
- Tranny's 1-2 syncro are slightly warn. Drives perfectly still, but fast shifts should be avoided.
- Ticking in the head. I have replaced the cam followers trying to stop this, but didn't fix the problem.
- Timing belt requires replacement. I have the belt, just not the time.
- Drivers seat has two tears in it. Could be fixed, but suggest finding a new replacement. Seems this type of seat has problems with tears.
- Believe the passenger side door card and window sill peice is cracked.
- Exhaust wasn't install properly and snaps the rubber hangers. Recommened to cut and reweld/hang properly.
- Engine mounts MAY be going. Quite a bit of movement with the engine. I have brand new engine mounts, just no time to install.
- Believe the tank inspection cover is leaking. I had to open it to check for rust in the tank when I did the fuel pump. The tank was spotless.
- From storage the tires are starting to crack/wear. Replacement recommended.
- Some fittings require repainting (Door openers, mirror mounts, windshield wipers
- Windshield wipers require work/installing.
- Vehicle was broken into and they scratched the paint on the door and roof.
- Sunroof requires some work as well. Works, but requires to be installed correctly.
- Requires new cardboard roof liner, had a saggy liner and so it was removed.
- Inner lights are not wired up
- Some spot rust causing paint to bubble (very little considering)
- That is all I can remember as of now.
