I found him sitting in the middle of a paved trail at a local park. He was seriously cheesin' for the camera (he came within a foot of the lense when I took this pic, and even closer for others). He even tried to follow me when I left.

The zoom, manual mode, 5+MP, image stabalizer, size and feel ( I really don't like little wee cameras) were all things I was looking for, but right now I couldn't justify spending 500+ on a camera. It was between this and the canon s2 naturally, but they were out of my price range.
I found this one for $350 on sale, which made it accessible to me. I'd like to use something like this to learn on right now, later on when I have the cash I'd like to move onto a D-SLR. It may not be the cats ass compared to what you guys have, but I feel it suits my needs.

Not sure if you are looking for any critique... When I looked at your first shot of the girl, it didn't really pop out at me as I found the girl to kinda blend in with the background... a higher f/stop would have helped I think... something similar to my photoshopped version.. I find the girl is now the main focus.. :)

Oh, I welcome any critiques. That way I know what the hell I'm doing wrong. LOL

I don't think my camera is good enough to blur the background that much at such a distance. I have to set it at F2.8 and go fairly close to achieve that kind of effect.

I used a Lens Blur filter on this fixed up version. It looks more natural this way, IMO.

Well, they arranged these marbles into a grid and when you look at it from a distance it becomes a picture. I think it was a flower and some plant.

I can't believe I forgot to take a photo of the whole thing. Then again it didn't look that nice. :P

Bokeh has nothing to do with the camera. It is the lens.

There is no way that photo was shot at F2.8 unless you are shooting with a point and shoot.

If you are using a DSLR, what lens are you using and are you sure you had it on F2.8?

that was the main reason why i ditched the G3 after only 3 months of using it. You can't narrow down the DOF on a point and shoot as much as you tried.

I never said it was shot at F2.8. I said in order to achieve the effect DJ Lazy was talking about I have to set it at 2.8 or 3.5. My camera is not a dSLR. It's an advanced point-and-shoot (Sony DSC-V3).

Come to think of it, I did take a F3.5 shot but I had to go up fairly close to make the background more blurry:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v106/zerom3/v3pics/DSC01757.jpg

If any of you saw the April thread I posted a pic that used a F2.8, but I also attached a wide-angle macro lens to get the effect a dSLR can do by itself:

Viper, that's a nice sunset picture. The colors are awesome. I think it would have looked so much better if you shot it in landscape. Portrait doesn't do it justice.

A bit of saturation to make the sky a little bluer would be good, but it's an excellent shot to begin with!

Damn some very nice shots in this thread indeed.

That space needle shot is hard to compute in my eyes, so weird!

I loved my kit lens, but it became smashed when I slipped on ice and exploded it off the camera body.
