Porsche stops production of Carrera GT
May 3, 2006, 6:03 GMT
Stuttgart - The last unit of the super Porsche sports car, the Carrera GT, leaves the production line on May 6 this year, the car maker announced.
After initially planning to produce only 1,000 units at its Leipzig plant in east Germany, a total of 1,270 Carrera GT's have been built since September 15, 2003.
Every second Carrera GT was exported to the United States, the car maker said.
With a power output of 450 kW/612 hp and a price of 452,690 euros (560,000 dollars), the Carrera GT is one of the most expensive and fastest sports cars on the road.
It is driven by a 5.7 litre V10 motor that accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.
Although Porsche managing director Wendelin Wiedeking described the Carrera GT project as a success, a Porsche spokesman in Stuttgart confirmed that a successor model was currently not being planned.
