Hey, i have a quick question... Is it cheaper/better to order rims from ads in magazines such as import tuner... because they have a wide selection... and they're price is for example 799 w/tires so i was thinking 4 sets of rims, plus the tires must be a good deal... and how much could shipping be? has anyone done it, if so can i get some input?

US dollars+shipping+tax+duty+brokerage=Way more than local

I would get prices local before ordering. Also the prices are in USD, aren't they?

Our dollar is so high right now that even with the rapage from UPS or Fedex it may be cheaper to purchase in the US. Definately check locally first as if it's only slighly more expensive to buy here at least you are putting money in to local business.

hmm... if you break it down that way i guess it makes sense...
I was just thinking if its 799 w/tires that would be good even if they added the shipping along with adding the extra dollars from going USD to CDN...
MAN rims are expensive especially cause you need the tires with it -_-

that statement is completely untue...i purchased a set of Gianelle V5 rims from wheels nest for 1822 CAD with Nankang rubber and shipped to my door inlcuding duties. Mr. Detail said they would cost me 500.00 a rim...so it is way cheaper...i recomend wheelsnext.com...good people to deal with.

^How much did you pay in duty/brokerage fees in total for an item of that size?

from my experiences...whenever i order anything from the US it ends up being twice the price that i paid by the time its in my hands. I've only bought from ebay and Tower Hobbies tho. I havne't bought any rims or anything of that size...yet.

I paid like 140.00 in duties/customs...they are good at knocking down the value on the declaration.

Thanks for that, seems cheaper to go with ordering from the US then. Example 19s with tires (Axis wheels)

CDN - 3200
US - 1800(1.11) + 140 + 6%

US is teh win

The customs question has been exaggerated so much by local vendors and people who just don't understand the process well. There are ways to get your packages without paying too much brokerage legally, and its FAR cheaper than paying a local vendor.

Local vendors must pay these charges also, and mark them up to make a profit. Remove the middle man and you can easily save tons of cash.

^I thought so, can you please explain the process and how much to expect to have to pay for shipping a set of wheels and tires?

i agree with my fellow pinoy, adobo eating countryman, this does need a sticky and how do we go about doing the brokerage stuff?. reason being is that i ordered a whole bunch of stuff, but it would have probably been better if i knew about all of that first. but oh well, for future reference.
