in part thats why some people have those things hanging off the bottom of their cars, and this is also why it is not recommended that you enter and exit your vehicle when you are at the gas station

I know subaru has an anti-static patch that you can buy and attach to the door.
Why not check into it for your car.

As you exit the vehicle but before you get yer butt outa the seat, hold on to the metal door and hold it until you are clear. Works every time cuz your grounding yourself kinda like wearing a grounding strap. Your welcome.

It's cool at night because you can sometimes see the spark from the shock!

Just kick the door closed with your foot if you're that scared of getting shocked.

Neither the 325 or M3 shocked me...not once.

My sister's Echo zapped me every time, until she got one of those static grounds...

hahaha, and here i thought i was the only one.

i agree with you , it pisses me off. At one point i was holding my key and the keyless entry remote and closed the door with the same hand. It felt like it went through the key, in the remote and made an even stronger shock.

but i am gonna try that butt thing suggested by ianmcc

Yeah same here, I always close the door by pusing on the glass or push it closed with my elbow. Hardly feel the shock thru clothing.. But direct to your hand when you forget about it gives me a nasty shock sometimes.. And I used to sell electric fencing, so I know all about good shocks.....

actually it's to ground the car so you get more clarity out of your Stereo system...

electricity does not conduct through rubber, so the tires wouldnt do it. Theres a metal strip in the grounding strap that touches the ground im assuming.

Ever done the 'trying to close a metal gate but brushed the fence with the chain'? ka-frikkin'-pow

The material that your seats are made of and what you are wearing can effect if you get shocked or not.

i would think those grounding straps are dangerous :dunno: the tires kinda keep u from being grounded, so what happens if u get hit by lightning? would the ground strap complete the circuit and kill your ass? i think it would

That little strap won't make any difference. The car protects its occupants by acting as a partial Faraday cage.

nope, the Body of the car allows the current to travel around you and not through you, if for what ever stroke of chance you get hit by lightning in your car, you would be safe, so long as you don't come in direct contact with any metal inside the car... i forget what the scientific name for your car encasing you in a insulated shell was... haha... man i miss school

My old subaru always did it, nearly 100% of the time. My mom's grand am does it maybe 80% of the time, but yet my dad's bonneville hardly ever does it.
For some reason my 944, 951 and my golf never did, yet the 944 and the golf had cloth interiors.
Just put one hand on the A pillar to help yourself out of the car, until your body is completely removed from contact with any non-metal piece of the car, then let go. The door should no longer shock you.

So what one of those Japanese cars with mostly glass, like a Toyota Sera?

I've never had it happen regularly in any vehicle I've owned or even driven but my civic is brutal for it. Every time I hit the metal power locks button I get zapped in the meanest of ways!
