Three teens suspected in Vancouver bank robberies
Last Updated Mon, 08 May 2006 18:58:42 EDT
CBC News
Police in the Vancouver area have arrested three teens under age 15 who are suspected of a string of bank robberies in the Lower Mainland.

The teens, two 13 and the other 14, were arrested on Saturday. They are suspected of involvement in the robbery of two Vancouver banks, as well as a string of other bank robberies.

"Within the last month and a half we're looking at seven robberies all over the Lower Mainland," said RCMP Cpl. Roger Morrow, "two in Surrey, three in Vancouver and two in Burnaby."

Morrow says he has never seen such young boys involved in such brazen robberies. Usually, teens that age get into petty theft and minor assault, he says, while holding up a bank is a much more sophisticated - and gutsy - operation.

"At our meeting this morning where this series of events came up, we [the RCMP] sat around the table and were speechless at having kids of this age involved in this type of crime."

Morrow says the teens weren't previously known to police. All the youths are from Surrey. Only one is in custody, and the others are at home with their parents.

The teens cannot be identified under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police say no weapons were used in any of the robberies.

I'm curious as to the "no weapons" statement... why wouldn't the bank teller just tell them to piss off?

At 13 and 14, hell even now, I always think about how easy it would be to rob a bank; or steal from work. It's simple. It's my morals that get in the way.

The media will tie that to the GTA series somehow.

Lots of bank robberies are committed without weapons, ususally by a guy passing a note to the teller claiming he has a weapon. The tellers are trained not to resist.

Hmm. Guess that's the reason I'd never work at a bank. At least on my job, I can defend myself. Bankers are unarmed and there's no armed security guards in Canada... scary thought.

Yes the majority of the time other people don't even know its going on.
Pass a note to the teller saying give me your money I have a gun etc

and we are Trained to act like its a regular transaction and do everything as simple as possible.

the money in the bank is insured * the staff and customers are not *

If the rober does not ask to ensure we donot put in a die pack
then we also slip in a die pack into the money,
this is a bundle of money that explodes red ink and paint everywhere
once they leave the bank and it becomes activated.

I work at a bank so I know the jist of it.
I'm suprized they've robbed 7 bank or so at there age.. its really sad to see.

it use to be
age 14, pick pocket etc age 40 banks

but now age 14 banks..
age 40 nuclear war head over united states...

Doubtful. We don't, and we deal with a hell of a lot more cash than banks do.

wtf would someone write "i have a gun" that makes it armed robbery/

I especialy would not write "I have a gun" if the teller is trained to do as he is told.
