So I'm planning on getting a tattoo on my left shoulder of this (http://s7.photobucket.com/albums/y274/ex1z7/?action=view&current=table4.jpg) (It's a design my 3 sisters always drew, more or less, and I started drawing it too .. it's one of the things we all share, and it's sort've a tribute as my 3 sisters and I are spread up apart from eachother all over the world now soooo...)

I was thinking of getting it in a few shades of blue and black, and about 6 inches by 4 or 5 inches.. Was just wondering if there are any tips I should know going into the place .. theres only a few (I think just 3) tattoo places in Thunder Bay and I want to go to the best.. What sort've questions should I ask, what should I make sure of (everything in new unopened sterilized bags etc.) Just things to make sure I don't get like .. hep C or something y'know.. I also want to make sure the colour stays so is there anything I should look at - such as - looking at pictures of tattoo's of other clients.. just to make sure the shop is quality?

But yeah, thats the design I want, I'll more then likely change the inside design on the wings, and a bit of change on the inside of the body ..

Oh, and that design was burned onto a table I made for my mom back in school .. hah, so excuse the bad quality of it - it was my first time using one of those hot poker things.

it looks like a butterfly, as 'loving' as it sounds to have that for yourself and your sisters. I think it would look gay on your shoulder. maybe get it somewhere you know... less noticable?

I am gald that for once some one on here wants a tatoo that actually means something to them, regardless of what you think is "gay". It means something to him so thats cool. I dont think he wanted to know your opinion on his tatoo either (even though it shouldn't matter to you as its his body not yours).I say you get it where you want.

When you go to talk to the shop make sure you take a good look around: does it look clean and steril, how does the atmospher feel, what do you think of the tatooists previous work. Go to a few places to compare and dont forget to ask around, what people have to say about the shop is a really good indicator of what kind of place they are

you know NOTHING about ME...or the choices I have made for ANY of my tattoos. Not only have you generalized 95% of beyonders with ink. You have made yourself look like a fool.

As mentioned before take a look around the shop to get a feel for it and check out the artists portfolios, but as for seeing whether the colors stand up its kind of hard because most of the pictures are taken either close to/ or right after the tattoo was finished... but as for seeing if the artists are good then its a good start. I just started my 3/4 sleeve this past friday and since then have been using a product called H2Ocean Ocean Foam... it will allow the tattoo to retain more ink/ color and will heal it alot faster. Like I said I went in on friday for a 3hr session and now I am all healed up.

I was making reference to all the "What tattoo do you guys think I should get" or "Tattoo ideas" threads. There is no doubt in my mind that the majority of the people on here get something they want and means something to them but when people post a tattoo thread its more often then not people looking for ideas for a tatoo simply because they want one.

EDIT: Threads like this (http://forums.beyond.ca/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28928) are what I was making reference to.

Thanks all =)

EK2.0 - Nobody was saying your tattoo's don't mean anything to you, it was more in defense from stevieo saying it would look gay.

Yeah, I agree, a butterfly isn't the most masculine of symbols - I suppose I could get a flaming, bleeding, skull and crossed swords with severed fingers laying around with the skull eating a baby rabbit or something "cool" or "masculine" like that but.. Thats not exactly my thing.

And it looks more like slugs humping then worms, alex_ford. And if that was one of those subtle jokes about incest cus this has to do with family then uh.. Well that's just.. Stupid?

And stevieo : Whats more less noticable.. My shoulder, which is never uncovered unless I'm changing/naked/swimming... ? Maybe my leg is better.. But then i can't wear shorts cus then it's noticable.. Maybe put it on my ass.. That doesn't see much light.

I don't mean to be rude in response to your rude comments, but seriously.. the reason I want the tattoo where I want it is because I can hide it if need be. Can't really hide tattoo's on your wrists, neck, hands etc.. Plus my shoulder I can't see stretching as much as my chest, stomach etc. eventually will.

And thank you again for everyone who posted something useful in this thread and/or defended me
