Ok was at Chinook center today and saw a silver 911 Turbo in the lot, holy crap it was tight, I looked inside and saw a Automatic Transmission:(
Later in the day there was a Blue WRX with shaved rear emblems in front of me. we merge onto Deerfoot and this guy just takes off into the right lane and quickly goes back into the left lane almost hitting a Dodge Neon, he actually ended up cutting him off. I was like

There are quite a few 996(newest style) TT's in town..3 silver at least 993's there are a couple and 930's not too many...mostly they were made in Red and Black...All fantastic cars...The Red 996TT in town owned by a young guy (21-25?) may be the nicest 996 this side of a GT3
The Italian guys' 996 is not Auto....

How can you tell the difference between models?

importadrenelin

it was a 996... 993 don't have the new "teardrop" style headlights I like to call them...
Porcshe's 911 lineup eveolve.. each time they change the design the name will change... so 993, 996 etc.

Whats wrong with an Auto Porsche, its not like its a wimpy slushbox, its a high performance Tiptronic. With 420 horse I'm sure that car is a blast to drive regardless of tranny...I'm sure the people on this forum with the AMG's will agree.

Oh, so 993, 996, etc, is like a generation number or something. Kinda like refering to Civics as Ek or EG.

Kinda, more like how BMW has E28, E30, E36, E46 etc.

A 930 is from the late 80's

930 is late 70's to late 80's
993 is early 90's to late 90's
996 is the current generation

All these cars are badged as the 911. just different evolutions of them.

That picture looks like a GT 2 with a different front bumper/air dam. The GT-2 only comes with a 6 speed manual, so if it's auto, it aint gt2.

Not to step on your toes but just to correct:

930 is mid 70's to mid 90's...1976 saw the first 930 turbo...

Remember the movie Bad Boys w/ Wil Smith...the porsche was a 1994 911 turbo 3.6, it was a 930 and 993's came out in 1995-1998...quite short lived...1999 saw the release of the current 996 style...:burnout:

Im pretty sure your wrong about the 993. Im almost positive the 930 ended with the 89 model year. But because im not 100% im gonna go find out. BRB

I am an avid porsche fanatic and chat often with the guys at southcentre fine cars....i am positive on it...(but i have been wrong before :D )

ok

930 - 75-89

(i cant account for 90, but its probably a 964)

964 - 91 - 94

993 - 95 - 98

996 - production began in 97 (race model) and the street model arrived in 99

So we were BOTH wrong & write. I just didnt know about the 964.

Are you talking about all 911's or just the turbos? if so what happened to the 91-94 911's, they were still 930's

im not positive about the base 911 model, but i was mainly talking about the turbos, and im pretty sure that the rest of the models followed in suit. BUt again, not 100%. DAMN YOU, not i gotta go do some more checking up..... actually its time to go to class, but in the words of arnold S. "a'll bee baak"

Ok, just got off the phone with the head guy @ Porsche...

Damn! thought i was an enthusiast!! lol...forgot about the 964....didn't realize it cause aesthetically the 930 and 964 are VERY close

We were both right and wrong....good job :D

http://www.928porsche.net/models911.htm

This site should clear things up a bit. The 930 was the turbo variant of the 911 before 89. the 964 started production in 1989. I think the turbo was dropped from the lineup for 90 before the 964 turbo came in in 91.

They might have to switch to a different number system soon... they're runing out of 9XX. :D

Does anyone know if the Cayenne has a 9XX number?

I believe the car in the Bad Boys movie was a 993 Turbo S and not a 930. If I remember right it had the 993 body style (headlights more sloped and different tail) but the air intakes on the sides would indicate it was an S model. I own the movie and will have to take a good look again.

They could always switch to hexidecimal.

Well I looked at the movie again and I stand corrected. It indeed is a 964 style car and not 993. And to think for the longest time I believed it was a 993. Still an awesome looking car though. Last night I got to look at 3 black turbos in a row.... a 930, 993 twin turbo and 996 twin turbo. Very cool.

yeah fantastic cars, they all are!! I totally forgot about the 964 chassis designation because the 930 and 964 were so similar...

Bad Boys rocks!!!

i'm talking about the glencoe club, that place is just as nuts! last time i was there, there were 2 silver 911 turbo's, a couple s4's, a crapload of mercedes, etc etc. according to my friend, its not uncommon to see a couple ferarri's there in the summer. oh i can't wait.
