Was reading up on Probetalk, got this story! Just wondering if any of you Tech heads knows a thing about the 540I, if they want to call BS along with with... the IAT mod he is talking about is for Automatics, and it makes the engine rev higher while it changes gears....
A stock ATX probe runs 16.5

umm, a 530i he would probably be close with. I raced my friends E34 528 I think it was, he had it chipped and we only went up to about 100 on a short stretch and beat him pretty good. the 540 is a monster though, it wouldn't even be close.

There's a little aero kit you can get for the E39 5-series. But the aero kit doesn't make it an M car.

yeh, but ive seen several "///M540i" i think the dealerships just put the ///M badges on if its ///M equipped...factory rice :dunno:

It's a rare model with only 32 imported to Canada as model year 95. This makes it even more rare than the elusive 94 Euro M3 (only 45 in Canada). It's basically got most of the European E34 M5 parts, except the drivetrain.

doens't the 5 series have a V8 version at 282 hp? well back in my year haha.... i mean even mine can eat civics, focus, 200sx, sentras, and some probes... and its only a 528i automatic 97...

The M540i is defined 2 ways:

It is either an M5 with a 540 engine or a 540 with M5 aerodynamics, suspension and drivetrain...either way it's the same thing...
