View Full Version : After interview waiting...

I had an interview at ATB last Friday and the lady who interviewed me said that she would get back to me within a week to see if I would get offered the job. So now it's Thursday...still no call...my instincts tell me that I didn't get the job. I was just wondering if potential employers let you know whether or not you got the job. Should I give this lady a call tomorrow and find out what's going on?

most places call only if you got the job.. I wouldnt push it by calling, if they didnt call you, you didn't get it.

I say just wait a little longer, sometimes things come up and the decision is delayed.

I really hate those places that say they'll call you regardless, and then they don't!!

call her back. If she sayd you DIDN'T get the job... ask why? and ask if you could improve on anything and thank her for her time. If they haven't decided yet, let her know why she should pick you. look on the job posting and tell her that you meet those requirements... once again.. thank her.

best of luck.

I agree with Rav4Guy. That maybe exactly what she needs to make the decision and also shows that you are very eager to get the job and if you didn't you want to learn what happened to improve yourself. Personally I would call her on the day or day after that she is supposed to call, but I would not call her earlier then when she said she would let you know.

She said she would call sometime this week and she hasn't yet, so I was thinking of giving her a call sometime tomorrow. I just wanted to see what everyone's take was since I didn't want to come off as being pushy. So thanks so much for your advice guys.

^^^ Good point

Yeah I just wanted to ask since I wasn't sure about proper after interview etiquette...when I got interviewed for other jobs before and didn't get the job, I always got a call telling me that I didn't. This is the first time that I haven't got a call yet so I just wanted to know what to do.

I'd agree with Rav4Guy too. It usually takes them longer than expected to make the decision, so calling keeps you in the loop and keeps you in their minds. Don't call every day to pester, but a week is ample time to call to get an update. And it is a very good opportunity to find out what went wrong (if you didn't get the job) and how you can improve. Can't go wrong by asking for constructive feedback. One big positive that I've had when calling, was being told that the position ended up going to someone more qualified. But they kept my resume in mind, and I got the position when another opening came up.

Definitely call. Even if they say they'll call, I always call them just to let them know I'm excited about the opportunity.

:werd: i had a couple pharmacy interviews and they called me back to tell me they hired someone else. I had an interview @ the CHR and they didnt get back to me yet, I emailed the guy last friday and asked him if he had made a decision he said he needs another week, so Monday he gets another e-mail from me

I wouldn't really call but if you have an e-mail address I would e-mail them. After an interview your always supposed to send a thank-you e-mail for taking the time to interview you etc....this reminds them of you, then I include that you will be e-mailing them later to see how the interview went. I had the same issue, the interviewer told me an answer within the week, waiting almost 2 and nothing, as soon as I e-mailed him, he replied that I got the job; he may have forgotten I guess.

best of luck. exactly, by not calling you show no drive for the job, it is ALWAYS good to do a follow up call after an interview, shows you are truly interested in the position, even after you are given the job description at the interview

I e-mailed her a couple of hours after my interview, thanking her for her time, answering my questions etc...and she replied back saying that my interview was a positive experience and that she would be speaking with me sometime this week but she didn't...I'm just gonna call her and see what's going on.

EDIT: Well I gave her a call and she said that she hasn't received word back on my reference checks and she's e-mailing someone to see what the hold up is. She said that she hopes to receive word back by the end of today.

^that would be a good idea, since she did tell you within the week. Also calling will show that you are interested in the position! Its a good thing to call today, cause if you don't it'll ruin your long weekend thinking about the outcome :D

EDIT: Well thats a good thing, atleast she didn't say NO

Hahaha for sure! I've been going crazy this whole week waiting to see if I got the job. I just hope she lets me know by the end of today

Good approach with calling her. It is a long weekend and the last thing on a HR person's mind is hiring someone. Give her a call on wednesday if she doesn't get back to you today. start off with asking her about her weekend.. blah blah blah and then squeeze in your job status.

cheers,

When I was applying for finance jobs with the banks, I got offers within 24hrs of the interview. So I'm guessing that they filled the position. What position were you applying for? One thing to remember is not to sell yourself short. There is a HUGE demand for finance people. I had 3 standing offers 2 weeks before I even wrote my final exams. There are a ton of opportunities...only go for exactly what you want. Good luck

Following up after a job interview, or any sort of important interview like that is always a good idea. If you have your interviewers email address, jsut send them a short email.

Dear [Name]:

It was a pleasure speaking with you on [Day] reguarding the opening you currently have in [position].

I look forward to speaking with you further about what skills/talents/abilities I can bring forward to [Company].

Sincerely,
[You]

Employers like shit like this because it shows initiative.

I wrote her that type of e-mail the day of my interview and I soon got a response back from her. That's when she said my interview was a positive experience and she would let me know this week if I got the job.

And Godfauder, I didn't apply for a finance job. It was for an operations assistant. My degree is in sociology and I'm not sure what I want to do with it yet. I'm still thinking if I'm going to graduate school or not. But right now I want to get some experience in an admin position because right now my job experience is mainly in customer service.

****EDIT**** I GOT THE JOB!!!

congratulations dude. For a second I thought I took the job you wanted because I also had an interview with ATB last week, and they told me the same kind of story (we will get back to you in a week with a yes or no answer). In this case however, it was for a personal banking specialist. Anyways we are both new employees to ATB now

I'm starting off at around 14 bucks an hour, but that's because I have no experience in admin type work...I'm looking forward to having an office job rather than a customer service one. No more dealing with annoying people.

You always have to follow up - ALWAYS. At best, you get the job since you demonstrated that you want to work there. At worst, they say no. In between, they'll offer you a different position at their company or if they really liked you on the interview but someone even better came along, refer you to friends of theirs looking for help, sometimes for better jobs.

Congrats on the position. I work at ATB as well, and have for almost 4 years. Are you in the ATCO building, or at the Atria building in the north?
