I'm thinking about buying some rims off ebay. Would the seller be able to ship it as a gift so that I dont have to pay the taxes/duty fees. If that does not work how much would the taxes/duty fees be?

I was screwed via UPS for $320 on an $1100us set of wheels/tires. I'd have been fine with gst and some small fee but I think their fee was about $180

OK so did you end up paying an extra $320 or $180 to UPS? Regardless your numbers dont match up with the web link provided.

Ya, the prices don't match.
I gave the seller $35 on a $50 item for shipping and then UPS charged me another $37.45 on top of that.
When I called for a breakdown of the prices, it was basically the price listed on the site plus all these miscellanous charges. $5 for the guy going through customs for me, $5 for handling, etc etc. I'm never shipping through regular UPS again.

I just bought a set of wheels from ebay

They were shipped UPS, and the total fees came to $105 cdn.
They wheels themselves were $300, so in the end it came out cheaper than buying them locally.

unless there a steal not worth it, although the dollar right now makes it enticing

Ship with USPS/CANADA POST only, UPS is the biggest scam company in the world of shipping. They offer low shipping costs to the shipper and to the buyer and you think you are getting a great deal, they re-coup it off their "fees" that they try to legitimize. They told me the brokerage companies are private companies, funny but the brokerage company these used was owned by UPS.

Short story short, UPS checks almost all their packages and adds the brokerage. Canada post/USPS doesn't, i usually pay like maybe 1 out of every 5 packages and even then the fees charged by canada post are realistic for handling, gst and duties.

If your buying from ebay most likely they will use UPS and won't give you a choice. I paid just under $1,100 CDN total with shipping and fees and crap for a set of 17's with tires mounted and balanced. I did have to get them rebalanced though as they were wobbly as a rubber chicken.

I only bought them on there because I really liked the style of rim and the CDN dollar is pretty strong.

yeah the ones i was thinking about getting are about 850CAD plus 100 shipping, so roughly 950. on top of the UPS fees would i have to pay any other tax?

^^ you pay the actual price with shipping. I don't remember them charging me any taxes as I got mine about 1 yr ago. Other then that you pay the extra brokerage fee when they get here to get your wheels.
