Out tonight with another buddy on our bikes, and this other guy on a harley pulled up, when we were at a light.. So anyways, we chat for a seond, and take off, we're approaching 8th st on 17th ave.. He starts to pass cars on the inside and then all of a sudden a car sitting a few back from the light, the passenger opens the door right as he's passing and he scrapes up the door (luckily he wasn't a split second earlier, or he would have ate the whole door).. SO if you know that intersection, theres a bit of room for people to pull up and make the right on red (same as 14th st) even cars squease up there.. AND that car wasn't against the curb, the guy just decided he wanted to get out all of a sudden.. I'm not sure who would be at fault in that case, they both could have technically been doing something wrong..

:dunno:

I'm pretty sure you're legally req'd to make sure it is safe to do so before opening your door. On the other hand, the car is technically in the curb lane unless there is a marked turning lane :dunno:
