I've sold my soul to ford and bought a Mustang. Due to insurance concerns with using my street car (my silver 2.5RS) for solo 2 and lapping days and suchlike I have purchased a dedicated race car. Its a 1989 Mustang LX. Notchback, zero option car (no power windows, power locks, A/C, etc). 5L powered and painfully stock, except for a 3.55 rear end. Needs a little TLC but is in fantastic shape, without a spot of rust on it after 188k kilometres. Tightest mustang I have ever driven, not a squeak or rattle to be heard from the chassis. No immediate plans for the car beyond what is required to get the car going for solo 2 and solo 1, although over the next year or so the car will be getting built up to Street Prepared spec, not limited to a built motor and griggs racing suspension setup, along with numerous other goodies. Pictures to follow later, after I have a chance to charge the batteries on my digital camera :D

The change from a 2.5RS to an LX would probably give me a seizure.

I love racing my subie, but I don't want to risk getting blacklisted or dropped by my insurance carrier. Oh well, I'll be a better driver for the platform switch, adaptation is a good way to learn :D

It'll be good to have a new car to try, learn the different chassis and driveline layout with its different characteristics. And lots of stuff that can be done to the car too :burnout: Can't wait for racing season to start now, only a couple more weeks  I'll get some pics tomorrow and post them, not enough light now.

I'm thinking of getting a 5.0LX, and sell either it or the teg when next winter rolls around.
I my biggest worry is the fuel consumption.

Anyway, congrats on the new purchase There's still an STi in my future, and it will get used for lapping days and that on occasion, insurance be damned. This car is going to be a project car as well as a track only machine, a toy basically :)

Looks in great condition, too. Forget vacuuming, rip all the carpet out ;) The car is in fantastic shape, not a spot of rust on it, all original body panels too (still has all the factory decals on the panels). The paint is kinda oxidized and the carpet is a bit of a mess, but otherwise its in good shape. Motor needs a little TLC before the first event, but other than that its good to go :burnout:

Congrats! Will be interesting.

Do these cars come with a limited slip diff?

Do these cars come with a limited slip diff? The car has a Traction Lock (clutch) LSD diff out of a 91 GT, but the lockup on the diff is not very much it seems (though who knows what it will be like when I really starting driving it hard), and its pretty progressive from what i can tell. Better than nothing though ;)

Good choice with the coupe. They're a bit more sturdy than the hatchbacks, and they also weigh less.
Enjoy!

Enjoy! Exactly why I chose the coupe :) Car is still a bit chunky at 3045 lbs curb weight, but it saves about 100lbs over the hatch backs, and with no power windows or A/C or any of that its less stuff to remove later :burnout:
