go do a deadra shrine - you get a skeleton key that never breaks.

or just buy 99 lockpicks - theres no real strategy i think.

Join the thieves guild. It's an absolute must.

there is a strategy. The lock has patterns. when you push up the thing goes up and it falls. Sometimes it falls fast and sometimes its slow. You just have to look for the pattern.

I got so proficient that I could open four locks with a couple taps of 'X'. You definately want to have your skills up for lockpicking as certain dungeons have some sweet gear hidden in chests.

the secret to picking locks is pretty easy actually, just listen to the noise it makes. Experiment a little, but usually when you hear two clicks instead of one, it's good to go.

So i have to keep moving all of the tumblers up until i hear 2 clicks? Then I press x to do the auto attempt?

Also where do I have to go to get the skeleton key?

push x to lock the tumbler in place after you hear the 2 clicks.

got Leyawin, the southern most town, then follow the road north and eventually it forks to the right and you can get the quest from the daedra shrine. You have to fight trolls, so get a good fire spell, and then you get the skeleton key that never breaks and adds 40 to your security skill.

place the first tumbler in the locked postion

then move your cursor to the right or left and a split second after you press the cursor key , hit x.

It will open the lock, every time

Make sure that you get your timing down though, i guarantee it will work.

On topic:

I noticed the double click sound last night, but I can't hit the button fast enough after hearing it to take advantage. Oh well :(

I did get a pretty sweet magic cutlass though!

Yeah, you have to react VERY fast. I'm going to try milhouse's suggestion and see if it works.

On another note, if you only have a pick or 2 and really need to get something open, quick save, and auto attempt....if you fail, reload. Continue doing this until it opens for you.

Just get the skeleton key from the Daedra Shrine, then hit auto-attempt until you get it :D

Seeing as this is Sunday, it's raining, and I'm doing fuck all, I'm going to go try and find the key right now.

Another question, what is the best kind of weapon to use against skeletons?

frostyda9

Spawn your own undead creature, and sit back and bust off some spells while the skeletons have at each other :D
Skeletons have no inherent elemental spell weaknesses, such as the Zombie does to fire, or the Flame Atronach does to frost.

Other than that, if you can get the Apothesis staff, it'll take them out in one or two blasts :D

If you're stuck with regular weapons, use something light and fast. I'll use a weapon that does less damage than a heavier, more powerful one... and strafe around a lot, slashing him (it?) after he makes a swing.
