I spotted a red Saturn Sky on the road over the weekend. It looks pretty hot. More straight lines and a little less curvy than the Solstice. The rear lights had an interesting sort of white plastic or chrome trim around them. The car looked really good and hard to mistake for another car with the same platform.

Solstice and Sky are couple of hot looking cars.

I did get a good look at the interior but managed to give the driver a thumbsup while in traffic

My neighbor has one, I keep seeing it drive by my house. Looks really nice. Mallet or something has a LS2 kit for it already... 400hp!

What's pretty sad is you and your jdm fanboyism. Please don't feel the need to turn every thread about a domestic car into a Japanese vs domestic thread. Would you rather them be priced in S2000 territory for the 15% of potential buyers that care about big performance? The Sky & Solstice with the 2.4L engine post near identical performance numbers to the Japanese made Miata. Pretty sad indeed.

^ heyheyhey HeavyD, now don't compare it to my MX5. :D is disappointing to see they need a 2.4L engine to have comparative numbers with my MX5 2L becuase the car is over 300 pounds heavier...
plus I can put my top up inside the car while driving. and I have a hardtop as an option. and soon there will be a retractable hardtop like the SLK and a mazdaspeed version.

looks wise Sky and solstice are not bad indeed.

Rarely agree with this guy but this time I must say :werd:

I've been on this site since the beggining and the jdm vs domestic thing is getting really dumb latelly. I guess this site is getting huge hey.

I love my imports but the solstice and sky are, IMO, a huge step in the right direction for GM.

Racecity has one of these for the pace car on the oval. decent looking car, just needs a couple hamster wheels under the hood and it'd be a decent car.

O RLY? People actually do shoulder checks? Not in my experience.

Sky is pimp but it's sold out for next 6 months. The trunk still bothers me.

Allways shoulder check. Its a habbit I myself have.
Sky looks like a gorgeous car IMO

I like them slightly better then solstice * stolstice has better performance however am I right 8??

Definately going in the right direction for domestics!
BTW Ohnestly imports and domestics arnt made any better or any worse.

Its the drivers who give there cars bad names.. people bag on a caravan and break it...

also there made for differnece purposes but a cars a car none the less.

its just a fact that people * wanto fit into a certain crowd so go all gung ho about certain vehicles *
when really

and this is the ohnest to god truth

IF YOU ARE A CAR FANATIC
AND YOU GO ON CAR SITES
ASPECIALLY IF YOU LIVE IN CANADA OR THE U.S

YOU SHOULD ADMIRE ALL VEHICLES!!

a 16 year old kid who sais I rock cause I have a skyline, everything else sucks... does not trully admire vehicles.

They dont admire the power and cult factor a chevy camero had in the early 70's

or how hemi cuda's had a slick sexy body for its time!

or how in the early 90's japan started poking its head in the picture comming out of nowhere with these amazing machines which now have competitoin for the states.

a true car enthusiests loves all cars, and can watch a * american muscle car * show on 48 and go oooh..... aaaaahhhh.

not turn off this shiat I want imports...

Plus everybody these days wants to follow someon else, if one person said imports rule over all else
everybody else seems to folllow them... its sad really

LOVE ALLL CARS for what they are

Even mini vans!

Hey I love minivans casue of all the spacial room!
imagine how many babes you can get in that car after a long night of partying it up, if 8 babes wanted to go home wtih you one night

Unless your comparing it only to the redline edition (which will cost way more than a miata, here is how the 2 stack up:

I have included road and track's miata vs solstice and miata vs sky data:

Road and track got the miata 1/4 mile in 15.3, which is substantially better than 15.5 it got with the solstice, and still better than the sky. The sky seems to be better competition for the miata but looks like has a little ways to go still.

Not trying argue, not trying to be a fanboy as I personally dislike both these cars ALOT. Forget who makes them, forget fit and finish, but in every magazine I've read the Miata beat the solstice/sky in the comparison test between the two (not necessarily in every performance category, and not necessarily in every magazine, just the one's I've read). I agree the sky redline will likely get good reviews and be good performance for the dollar.

In my opinion, I am however dissapointed that they never put more HP in the miata, and I am also dissapointed that GM started with a clean slate and chose not to outperform he miata in every category, which in my opinion they had no excuse not to do being its only competition.

The sky fares way better against the miata than the solstice. The sky is heavier than the miata, slower, more expensive, and doesn't brake nearly as good but it does seem to outhandle the miata.

Re: Shoulder checking.

All you should have to do is look out your front windows, not crank your head and look through the back. Adjust your mirrors properly ;)

If a car isn't poking its head beside my side windows and its not in my mirrors, its not there. If you've ever driven a delivery truck or anything without rearward vision you have to learn how to do this, its much easier on the neck.

Their sold out for two years, 6 months I wish!! I even called Saturn dealerships in Regina and Saskatoon, their sold out at least a year and a half also. I'm REALLY thinking about buying a Sky on ebay, and just importing it. I dont want to wait two years, I'll be 25 by the time I get the car I bought today. :thumbsdow

Akagi, the Sky supposedly performs way better.

Mistsu3000GT, Road & track magazine picked the Sky over the Miata in total.

You know what? I don't care whether the Sky is slower than the Miata. I think (in most cases), the difference is negligable. I think that the Sky (and Solstice) is definitely a step in the right direction for GM. It's not going to take over the small roadster market, no. But it'll take some of the Miata's sales. That's good.

You and T78Supra1 better get together and compare your 15 second timeslips again before you can say "OMG I beats you so bad homie, Dayum kid!".

Also, most people agree that the miata's looks are more suited to females.

I find both cars market more towards men. Only in the last 2-3 years have mazda pushed towards building a male audience. If a guy wants to go small but look good he needs to go witha Z3 or a Boxster and really you can find 98-99 for good prices now a days and they kill all three cars. even the Z3 1.9l in 96 with a supercharger would kill these cars (granted you were flying threw corners, like you should be doing  )

If we want to magazine Racw why not go with Grassroots motorsports competition comparo of the miata and the solstice from February 2006.

http://www.shadowword.com/grm.pdf

Big file 8 megs. If the link goes down let me know I can rehost it. Good read.

they seem to be pretty impressed with the solstice on track.

If we want to take bets on a mid 15 second cripple fight drag race then I guess that is a different thing.

Refreshing to see some unique new cars available. this of course takes nothing away from the Miata. They did a good job on the redesign as evidenced by its US sales numbers being up 172% year to date, which helps makeup for the RX8s continued Shartriffic sales.

Bench racing 4thewin.

By the way, if your mirrors are properly adjusted, you don't need to shoulder check. I didn't believe it either until I fixed them, and trust me, it's much, much better. Zero shoulder checking required unless I'm backing out of a parking space.
