-----------------------------------------------------------------
CITYBEAT - CITY OF CALGARY PRESS RELEASE
-----------------------------------------------------------------

The Calgary Fire Department is requesting the media’s
assistance to alert the public of the following telephone
service disruption.

Today, Friday, June 9th at 1200 hours, the 9-1-1
Communications Centre was contacted by TELUS regarding a
disruption to their land line service in the following areas:

1) Pump Hill
2) Paliser
Boundaries:
N – 90 Ave.S.W.
E – 14 St. S.W.
W – 24 St. S.W.
S – Southland Dr. S.W.
3) Haysboro
Boundaries:
N – Heritage Dr. S.W.
E – 7 St. S.W.
W – 19 St. S.W.
S – 87 Ave. S.W.

Telus officials reported that the disruption is weather
related and repairs are underway. Repairs are estimated to
take up to 24 - 48 hours to complete. Service has been
compromised to approximately 518 lines in these areas.

Residents in these affected areas are advised to do the
following;

1) Check your land line phone to see if you have a dial tone.
Do not dial 9-1-1 to test your phone as this ties up a
critical lifeline that someone else with a true emergency may
need.
2) If your phone does not have a dial tone, you may have to
use a cell phone for emergency purposes.
3) If you do not have a cell phone, check with your neighbors
to ensure you have access to a phone in the case of an
emergency.
4) If you do not have access to a cell phone, in the case of
an emergency, all Fire Stations in the affected areas will be
staffed continuously for the duration of the outage.
Additional staff will be sent to the affected areas to ensure
someone is at the station at all times and to assist with
emergencies and any additional calls in the area.

The address of the Fire Stations in the affected areas, are
as follows:

1) #14 Station - 9840 - Horton Rd. S.W.
2) #24 Station - 2607 – 106 Ave. S.W.

The 9-1-1 Communications Centre is fully operational and has
not been affected by this disruption.

Further updates will follow regarding progress of the system
restoration and projected time frames.
