Mercedes-Benz Unimog wins award
The Unimog, an off-road truck by Mercedes-Benz, has been voted number one in the Special Vehicles category by readers of the leading German magazine 'Off Road' for the second year running.
The Off Road Award 2005 was made in a total of seven categories of specialist off-road vehicles. Some 5,000 readers selected the winner from among 67 nominated vehicles, Mercedes-Benz vehicles being among the front-runners in two categories.
The Unimog U 3000 took first place with an amazing 64 per cent of votes. The Mercedes G-Class took second place in the 'off-road classics' category with 33.2 per cent of votes cast.
The Unimog came in for particular praise for its characteristic product features of the Unimog such as its extraordinary off-road capability thanks to portal axles and its tremendous torsion rigidity, in conjunction with its superior robustness and solidity, said a report.
Produced since 2002 at the new Unimog production site in Wörth, the highly versatile Unimog models U 3000 to U 5000 are designed for use in the most challenging of off-road situations away from normal roads and tracks
