tranny porblems, help plz

I have a 91 explorer, When I put it in drive it doesnt shift into drive and acts like its in neutral, same thing with reverse, about 50% of the time it will do this and I will have to keep shifting around to make it enage in either drive or reverse.

Allthough I was able to drive it down the block and I thought it was fine, when returning it basically slipped out of drive and was able to rev it asif I was in neutral.

Im thinking that tranny is done? or would it be something simple like a possible sensor.

Im taking it to a tranny shop tomorrow but and pre input would be appreciated. thx

Is your transmission fluid low?

tranny fluid, you could check the fluid or rev it up and see if it helps

I'd change the tranny fluid, its cheaper than changing the entire tranny.
