use a boot disk or your xp cd and do it that way. its probably telling you that its in use because of hidden files are actually being used in services or just in general.. such as a paging file.

try to change it to a different letter too.. D: is usually a CD/DVD drive letter by default and confuses people/me when you said you want to format it.. :D

bah, tried to change it and it says it contains a pagefile.

Wtf is a pagefile and why the fuck is it causing me so much problems?

I wish I stayed with all this technology stuff, used to be nothing to me to get this figured out.

your paging file is Virtual memory - the stuff that comes from your RAM. your ram makes this file so your pc can work faster. the more you have physically the more you will have virtually, the faster your pc basically.
kinda long process in moving your page file... what operating system you using? (xp, 2000) brb

how to in case you forgot:

Start - Right click my computer, properties - Advanced Tab - Settings button - advanced tab again - Virtual memory section (Change button) - you will see a list of your drives and one of them (your D: drive) should say Page file - click another drive other then the D and press "system managed size" and press Set. it should ask you to reboot after you press ok and close the windows. do that and get back to me.
