yah, i use an older version of winamp also. I don't find any problem with it. I've even used the latest version and as long as you don't go overbaord with the fancy skins and stuff it's fine.

I use windows media player because it syncs with my creative player. The new version 11 is nice, they simplified alot of tasks and the bullshit they used to have all over the place is hidden in menus. resources aren't an issue for me however, so i can't say how it'd affect most computers.

hahaha my Winamp 5.24 with modern skin, alpha blending, opacity, etc on...uses a whopping 9 megs. Maybe it's time to update that 386 of yours? :D

Winamp all the way.
I use the global hotkeys, NxS Balloon Tip and I can use winamp without ever having to close/minimise/switch from my current application.

Plus the Jump to file and queuing songs within the playlist is gold.

Global hot keys are great you can control everything without a mouse or changing applications. And the baloon tip pop up from the taskbar to show you what is going on.

I have a 19,000 song playlist. And its uses about 28-33 Megs. I have a bunch of plugins into it as well.

Winamp 5.2

winamp all the way
lite, fast, and non-invasive
by that i mean it doesn't force u or ask you repeated to scan your harddrive library
my library consist of just over 100gbs, which i store on DVDs. this scanning process and updating database is tedious and useless to me

and imo, i hate the mp3 playes (on-the-go) which you have to install drivers and stupid programs in order to sync with. users should have a choice of a simple mass data storage mode, and then a mode to sync if that suits you

Its funny that you say that, because its actually the opposite.

I use winamp and itunes though. I'll usually use winamp to listen to new stuff, and itunes most other times since i can edit stuff and put it on my ipod.

One problem with itunes is with the volume leveler. I find i have to turn my speakers super loud for it to be a good volume since the low volume songs bring down the average volume.
