Can somebody help me out, how much hp is the e36 m3?

I've heard 240 hp and read 240 on MSN Auto

but

According to m3Forum.com its at 321 hp. Which one is it?

240 = us spec
321 = euro spec

The eurospec e46 m3 motor, as well, is better than ours too.

Euro spec was in production in Canada though right?

Nope.
They do however offer engine swaps.
If you purchase one, better have about 15 g's!

That 321HP is for the Eurospec 3.2L engine, the 3.0L in the 1st EuroSpec M3s had 286HP.

According to BMWregistry.com, ( http://www.bmwmregistry.com/model_faq.php?id=14 ), there was a handfull of EuroSpec E36 M3s that made it to Canadian shores. I also remember reading about it in some magazine as well. (Car and Driver with the E46 Drakar Yellow M3 on the cover comes to mind?)

Was the European version of the three-liter E36 M3 ever sold in North America?
Yes. Through an agreement that existed in 1994 between Canada and several European nations, any car federalized in one country could legally be sold in any of the others. With no North American version of the E36 M3 on the horizon, BMW Canada took this opportunity to import 45 European-spec M3 coupes for the 1994 model year. These cars are identical to the German-spec 1994 M3 coupe except for the government-mandated addition of a third brake light and daytime running lights, and the deletion of the rear fog light. In addition, each car has a numbered plaque on the inside of the glovebox door. The specification, including standard and optional equipment, is otherwise identical to that of a 1994 Euro-spec M3.

We've figured it out.

European BMW > North American BMW

not to mention the diesel lines etc.

Yeah 45 eurospecs came over to canada thanks to an emission loop that we had, still didn't pass U.S. emission rules so they didn't get any, very nice cars, came with custom engraved plate bolted in the glovebox telling you the production number of the vehicle out of 45

Now THAT is dope.

Would like to have an E36 M3 just because of that.

Mine's a Cosmos Black / Modena sedan. One of the first sedans to arrive in North America.
