Which cable modem does shaw sell now? I couldn't find it on their website.

On another note, will any calble modem work on the shaw network? I would like to buy another cable modem and Im pretty sure i can get one cheaper on ebay. I just want to make sure it will work.

Are there better cable modems than others? Do any perform better than another?

They give out the Motorola SB5101. At least in Edmonton.

They are different in Calgary and Edmonton. If you can get your hands on any of the older working cable modems just tell them you want to try x-treme and they will upgrade your modem for free and you should get a free month of x-treme too.

I used to have the older Cybersurf ones, and about 6 months ago i upgraded to the Motorola for free. Not that big of a difference if you ask me. (except the size of the modems) :P

yeah right now i have an old school cybersurf that I pay on each month (yeah i know i dumb like that) and I am connecting another computer in my house so i just wanted to get a few cable modems that i will own. I dont want to pay shaw every month for a modem that i can get for cheap on ebay or secondhand.

so basically most cable modems perform the same huh?

Yeah, unless your getting 2 seperate internet accounts you don't need 2 modems. AND you can buy your modem for like 30 dollars I believe since you have been renting for a while. I would just buy it out, trade it in for a new one for free and buy a router.

u pay upfront for that modem (if you don't have an old one etc. or a telus one to trade)
than u get reimbursed $10 for each of 5 months i think

Ya if you have been renting for awhile they will sell it to you for 29.95 and then if you ask to upgrade to x-trem they will exchange the modem for free.
If you just stay with high speed then you wont notice a difference in speed but if you upgrade to extrem then you will notice a difference

also FYI, 2 modems on one cable line will not work.

you need a router, wifi is cheap.
