Engines...what does it mean?

As you all know honda engines have many different kinds such as B18c, B16, h22...what does it mean...the B and the H and the 16,22,and 18? some are b18c5...and what the heck does it all stand for?:banghead: :confused:

they are just engine codes man that identify themselves from one another and make it easy to reference what vehicle they came in.

Maybe I'm dumb or something but my ZC, which is a D series is a DOHC.

The letter stands for the block type like there is the b series blcok d series and so on, the number stands for for displacement like 18 - 1.8 litre, 22 - 2.2 and so on the last letter stands for the head type example a, b, c. So for example B18C5 its a b series block, 1.8 litre, c5 is the type R cylinder head, if it was c1 gsr head and so on

the first letter is jsut the family designation. doesnt necessarily refer to sohc or dohc...

like F22s and H22s share pretty much the same block. and the f20c has zilch in common with the f22a1...so u see, its really messed up and theres no general rule to go by
