Control TV with my PC

anyone come across some software to use your Laptops IR port as a remote controll for your TV? I have a sony wide screen tv but its gone into normal screen mode and I cant get it to go back to wide screen, and I dont want to buy a universal Remote

I know you can get a program for PDA's, but I don't know about laptops.

it could work, but i would imagine the laptop's IR is much weaker than the remote's
i tried that w/ my O2 mini's IR port, i had to stand like 1 inch away lol

theres IR programs out there like red rat but its not free and i think u may need to bay an ir blaster from them.... maybe they'll have a trial or something. its software gear more towards testing though
