Haha! Yeah, I was up in Edmonton last weekend to visit some family and met up with a buddy to do some shooting while I was there. I haven't had a chance to upload any more photos though.

Here's a nice one from Montreal. Jacques Villeneuve's club/restaurant. I played with this picture on and off for a few days trying to get it to pop out nicely. Because there's a lack of color in the picture, it took a while before I found a good balance that makes the image look good.
This was taken with my new Canon SD700 IS point and shoot camera. Not terribly happy with the roadsigns, there's a lot of pixellation with the diagonal black lines on white background :(.

Out at a friends cabin. The cliff jumping shots were taken from a boat so they are not the clearest but it was hard timing the shots to the waves. :( Especially when people don't jump at the same time as the wave peak.

Well, I havent contributed for a while and got some brilliant idea to try and shoot some lightning photos tonight...yeah, sucked...I got absolutly soaked, and so did my cam, sooooooooooo much water on the lens (damn sideways rain) so all my wicked photos turned out like ass. Anyhow, here's the only one worth salvaging, the water was far too bad on the rest.

What settings are you guys using to shoot the lightning?
I tried f/8 and a shutter speed of 4 sec. The longer shotter speeds caused way too much light to be absorbed and when the lightning flashed all I got was a white picture. Any suggestions?

Nah. Mine had the 87c filter built into it, which had a way too narrow bandwidth for my tastes. From the looks of Davan's photos, he's probably using an R72 filter, which has a lot more pleasing results. My cousin's using one and the photos look so much cooler than anything I ever took. I'll probably end up getting one sooner or later anyways...
Awesome photo, Davan!!

Quick question for you guys, what is the purpose of the IR?
Davan
07-18-2006, 09:09 AM
Thanks, everyone!
I think I'm starting to get the hang of IR. This will be my second year with the R72 filter. Quite the learning curve to it.
That particular 12-frame shot was about 50 minutes behind the camera, then about 4-5 hours of post-processing in photoshop. I'm really pleased with how it turned out, especially considering how many duds I've shot over the last year. It's tough not being able to use autofocus, the lightmeter, and the viewfinder! lol.
For anyone interested, here's a screenshot of the stitching together process: click (http://www.framedfiction.com/posts/elbowfallspano-ir-makingof.jpg)
The sun went behind a cloud for the last 6 frames, as you can see. Made matching the exposure and colours quite difficult. It was shot with a digital rebel, 50mm lens, all of which were 20-30 second exposures at f/8 (each).
