View Full Version : Sony Employees Spreading Propaganda on Forums

Sony Corporation has asked its employees to start browsing forums more at work, the reverse of most employers. They believe that forums can be used as a means for marketing the upcoming launch of the Playstation 3 console gaming system. Employees are asked to not only target video gaming forums, but dating forums, car forums, and even religious forums as well.

The head of Playstation 3 brand management and marketing, Randal Hiram, says that these forums are "a way to strip away the mantra of a large corporation when targeting potential buyers" and contact them at a "grass roots level". Hiram estimates that Sony employees are engaging in this activity oh "several thousand" forums already. They hope this pays out when the Playstation 3 finally hits stores during its much awaited launch.

James Paregh, an operator of a Seattle based Anime forum, says that such users have been very active on his site, and they are not welcome. "These people are misrepresenting themselves as part of our community when really they are just nonpaying advertisers," says Paregh, "they are banned immediately once they are identified". Paregh had these words of warning for his fellow forum administrators "watch out for the user 'deadsoulasis'. This is the most active Sony employee we've seen on forums out there and they seem to have no other job besides trolling forums defending Sony day and night. Ban this guy before he gets started".

I think some of the hate comes from most people already paying close to 1000 dollars in total for xbox360+games,ect.

And now that more and more is shown on PS3 ...and how much better it looks ...I think most are quick to point out all the faults of Sony straight away in delusions....

There are plenty of times when Sony shit the bed. Their DSD based SACD's were promising for the market of hi def audio. In the end, their overly strict copy security andrefusal to release the material held under the Sony label to DVD-A tanked not only SACD, but DVD-A as well. We had two formats in competition, and instead of a winner, we ended up with two losers.

Their car audio is garbage.

Their TV's are good, but prices are always grossly inflated because of the name.

Their portable audio players used a proprietary audio format, which is gay.

Their customer service is slow.

Their digital cameras are "me too" products. Anyone with any sense buys a Canon over a Sony.

Basically, Sony used to make quality products. I used to like Sony. Over the years though, the quality of their products deteriorated and their profit margins increased.
Farming out manufacturing to poor labour countries lowers cost, and quality. It increases profit though, so they do it.

Sony is a member of the RIAA. They are paranoid about copyright infringements, hence their security paranoia.
Sony is about making money, pure and simple. If a few people get fucked over along the way...oh well, there will be someone else to take their place who will be lured by the Sony name.

That's my view anyway, YMMV

they had a stint with paying people(maybe actually graffitti artists) to vandalize walls in London with advertisements for PSP

I used to love Sony products but I can honestly say they havn't been an engineering company for over a decade now. All their products are shit. And now that's it's ran by a media head, it got a lot worse. So I will not support them unless I have to.

Sure same could be said with Microsoft but at least they don't fuck with your PC by design.

Yes and what happens?Someone hacks the security on it.PSP is a prime example of this considering this is about Sony.Thats what happens when you take people's freedom away....

You just are begging me to say

That's kind of funny because I have yet to see anything on PS3 that looks better than what's on the 360. Sony was widely panned at E3 2006 for just that fact as people there laughed when the price point of $600 was made and the games looked not better than 360 or PC games. In fact best graphics of show went to a PC game. MGS4 looks great but most of what has been shown is prerendered CG. GT5 looked terrible and pretty well all playable games had major framerate issues. I would say the best looking PS3 game right now is Assasin's Creed but again there was very little actual gameplay shown. Gears of War, Boishock, & Mass Effect looked incredible and were widely chosen as games of show from site to site & those games won't be available on PS3.

If anything this cooled alot of people on why shell out the extra dough for a console that doesn't look better than the 360. For Canadians another major note is that EA after a year off has created a completely new engine for NHL 2007 on the 360 and it looks incredible & there will be no PS3 version this year. EA is the largest 3rd party developer in the world. Maybe they know something or maybe they feel the cell it just too complicated to program for like many other developers have already expressed.

That was GT4 acually on 1080P ...

Any first hardware is hard to program for ...it becomes natural in a year's time ...give it a rest ...

Thats just the start and that was done in a 2 month timeframe and on not even FINAL dev kit.Just wait a year

(Nasdaq: NVDA), a worldwide leader in graphics and digital media processors, provided a first look at the powerful graphics architecture of PLAYSTATION®3 at a press conference held today by Sony Computer Entertainment (SCE). NVIDIA and SCE are jointly developing a new graphics processor for PLAYSTATION®3. Codenamed "RSX," the new processor will connect directly to Cell, the advanced microprocessor developed by IBM, Sony Group, and Toshiba.

"RSX is jointly developed by NVIDIA, the number one company in PC graphics,
and SCE, the leader in computer entertainment," said Ken Kutaragi, president and group CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. "This cutting-edge graphics processor will give freedom in graphics expression and accelerate the fusion of entertainment content."

"PLAYSTATION 3 will be the most important computer entertainment and digital media platform of the decade," added Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO, NVIDIA. "The combination of Cell and RSX will enable the creation of next-generation real-time 3D imagery that will take your breath away.Pipelines surpassing the mighty 360"

During the press conference, Mr. Huang demonstrated examples of graphics breakthroughs that will be available to future PLAYSTATION 3 developers and end-users. His presentation included real-time demos created by NVIDIA as well as a new demo developed by Epic Games. The demos illustrate how RSX will enable PLAYSTATION 3 games to realize stunning immersive and interactive environments, compelling and believable characters, and experiences beyond what was previously thought possible.

RSX will be the most sophisticated graphics processor ever built, representing 1500 person-years of investment. When combined with Cell, it will provide an astounding two teraflops of floating point horsepower. A measure of the extraordinary processing power of RSX compared to current-generation game consoles is the numbers of transistors it will contain: 300 million. This is more than the total number of transistors in both the central processing units and the graphics processing units of the three leading current-generation systems, combined.

Dude your pro PS3 attitide is not warming anyone here to the PS3. In fact its having the opposite effect.

You obviously have no idea what programming for the cell entails. It is extremely complicated compared to standard PC architecture. The 360 has a major advantage over the PS3 in regards to memory allocation. With the 360 you can allocate a 50/50 split (512 MB) between ECU and GPU or 20/80, 40/60 as programmers see fit. PS3 has 256 MB for ECU & 256 MB for GPU fixed and the 360's ATI GPU (took 2 years to design from a clean slate not a PC GPU like the PS3 Nvidia card) has features that heve never been used before such as unified shaders and is not using Direct X. The developer making the game 'The Darkness' for 360 & PS3 was interviewed and said the PS3 has a slight CPU advantage while the 360 has a definate GPU advantage and said that the game looks identical on both systems. I can't recall the developer but last week a game that was supposed to come out on PC, 360, & PS3 had the PS3 version cancelled as the developer said that it was not feasable and would only do it if Sony paid them to do it. Not a good sign if smaller developers deem the PS3 too expensive to program for as some of the freshest ideas come from smaller developers.

Also while the Blu-ray drive is a bonus for sure, it's only a 3X drive which is slow. This will mean long load times and everyone hates long load times as even with the hard drive you still will have longer load times with PS3.

You can say whatever you want but developers actually programming for the devices have spoken & I will take their words over corporate fluff from Sony or Microsoft.

Your gunna sit there and tell me when you have 60 gigs for cache instead of 20???baloni.... ...theres gunna be longer load times?I dunno what your smoking ...but I dont wanna have any
and for the record Its a ATA standard drive (confimed) means you can throw in any drive size....200 gig ATA SATA would fit nicely ...SINCE ITS ALREADY MADE ...longer load times?..sorry ..thats so baloni..does XBOX360 allow you to switch hard drives?good lord no (without modding it)

From a developer discussion how they were using the HD to overcome the load times of the 3X drive. I can dig it up tonight if you must see. Don't bet on 6X as Sony is already losing a pile of money on the PS3 based on the old 1X numbers that were initially rumored.

I would guess a .cwc file (like xbox360) Its called preloading onto the drive
But since this isnt microsoft ...and there losing money on the console as well ...

I dont know how ...im not a programmer but I know Ill wait for a perloading to play a better game ...which I dont believe will happen but Ill gladly wait anyways

Every company needs to make money to survive. How they go about doing it is a completely different story. Microsoft is a large, powerful corporation as well, and it's had it's share of problems in the past. BSOD comes to mind. Ever since the introduction of XP Pro though, my view of them has changed. If you maintain your system, crashes are rare. Updates and new programs are frequently released, free of charge to the user. I now measure OS uptime in months, not days. Politics aside, I am no longer a MS hater, and I look forward to Vista to see if things are going to get even better.

As a side note, the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation channels more money than the average person will see in a lifetime to worthwhile causes, every day. At least they are giving something back to the people.

I have to agree with frostyda9,

I have tried Vista Beta 2 and its looking promising ..I dont hate microsoft ..its just Im glad there's other options for me to run different OS's ...

I like the idea there doing with the 'protected' file system keys..that was a great idea ...something they for sure should have done with WinXP...since its so widely used now ...

The problem is, the $2000 PC still won't be able to play GT5.
I don't need a PS3, I use my computer for games. However, I want to play GT5 which means I get to spend $1000 to play one friggin game. While my situation presumably occupies a very small percentile of the people out there, you can probably see how this is frustrating to me. GT5 could be released on PC for those with the hardware to support it. But it won't be, because it's a leveraging point to force people to buy the PS3.

and Motorstorm ;)

Oh but nobody wants to play those I suppose :burnout:;)
