is there an age restriction to get this done?? a friend told me i have to be 25 and it'll cost me $2000 per eye, but i seen a lasik md commercial right now saying $390 per eye

there's always going to be some extra fees on top of the $390.

also, i think part of the reasoning behind the age restriction is that once people reach a certain age, their vision is more stable. if someone's visual acuity is constantly changing, then the outcomes of the lasik won't be as predictable. thats my guess at least.

price also costs more depending on how bad the eyes are (ie strength, etc.)

Friend also got it done for about $500/eye and he couldn't be any happier.

Yes, I agree the age thing is more just a guideline for your vision being stable. My wife is 31 and still can't get the laser surgery due to the fact that her eyes are still changing slightly from one examination to the next (2 year intervals).

I got mine done when i was 21. Had steady checkups to make sure my eyes werent changing in any way before i had surgery. I had mine done a Culver Eye Centres. Highly recommeded!

It cost me about 1800 for both eyes at the time and was the best money i have ever spent! My vision has only got better sinse the surgery and i dont see it getting worse anytime soon.

It all depends on your eyes. Some people have room for adjustments down the road while others dont. I could have the same surgery a couple more times and still have room for correction.

The price really depends on your eyes and your prescription. Remember it is your eyes so dont cheap out. I checked out 3 different places before i decided to go with culver.

Search the topic also there is lots of good info already posted about this topic!

how long does it take you eyes to completely adjust after surgery, months.. years?

both my parents had it done more than 3-4 years ago and havent had a problem since. except my mom, who had to come back once to get it redone. but it seemed to work fine so far.

im think about getting it, its getting cheaper and cheaper. when my parents got it done, it was about 1500 per eye.

the thing is, and correct me if im wrong, you cant get it done if you have astigmatism or if your eyesight levels change constantly

you'll spend about a weekend or so with UV shaded lenses and your eyes will hurt if you see direct light...but after that it'll be about a few weeks for a FULL recovery and 20/20 typer vision...however my dad was told not to do any strenuous activity or sports for 3 months.

They can correct astigmatism to a certain degree. For extreme cases, go for implantable contact lenses (ICL). I did it almost two years but it was $7400.

they're implanted into the eye. essentially they are maintenance free (assuming no complications). they're kind of like the lenses inserted into a person's eye after cataract surgery - except that for these type of lenses, they don't remove your own natural lens. the only problem is that the final refraction is not perfectly predictable. they can usually come pretty close or even dead on, but its likely not guaranteed. look up phakic IOL's (i'm pretty sure thats what they're called) if you wanna learn more.

This procedure makes a tiny incision to insert the lens so the cornea isn't altered like LASIK. I haven't had any dryness at all.

ICL is reversible (i.e. they can take them out) and I believe they can swap out the lens or do LASIK to enhance if necessary.

Yes and no, your optomitrist will be able to tell you. I had mine done at 21. Its when your eyes have stopped changing and getting worse/better. Worked out great for me you just have to ask

What is the experience like? When they numb your eyes with eyedrops, can you still see? Do your eyes water up like crazy while it's held upon for the whole procedure? Do you ever feel like you just can't keep your eyes open any longer? Can you see a beam of light from the laser? I've heard that you smell burning...

I'm interested in getting it done, but I'm freaked out as well...

No one gets $390 per eye. Count on closer to $1000 per eye. I had mine done about at Lasik MD a year ago and count it the best 2 grand I ever spent. I have to use eye drops when I get up in the morning but usually don't need them again unless it is really dry or dusty or I am really tired. It has been getting better as time goes by. Astigmatism is correctable but the results can vary. They say the wavefront lasik is better for that, more precise but much more expensive. If it is too bad the PRK is the best option but recovery time is much longer. Go down to the lasik place and have an evaluation, it doesn't cost anything and you can get prices and discuss all your options. Just make sure you take some DARK wrap around sunglasses as the eye drops they use blow your pupils wide open for a couple of hours and you have no idea how badly a sunny day can hurt.

A friend had it done, cost $2000 give or take for both eyes, he was seeing and feeling fine 4 hours after the surgery. The next day he even got Skydrol in his eyes (nasty ass aviation hyrdaulic fluid) and it didn't even effect them.

Looking to do it myself whenever I happen to have $2G to spend.

One thing I will stress, DO NOT GO FOR THE BEST DEAL. Get the MOST expensive procedure you can find. There are still surgons out there that use a scalple instead of a laser (the old way). Mine were about $2000 per eye with free touch ups if there were any future problems (make sure to ask about this!)
Its not fun, its very uncomfortable but nothing you'd want to jump out of, like going to the dentist. My eyes were held open with plasic clamp sort of things so I couldn't blink if I wanted, sounds worse than it is though. It was worth it 10x as much as it cost. But again do not go cheap, not even a sale on a normally high price, take the high price, then you know you're paying for the guys best of the best equipment.

Absolutely the best money I've ever spent. Do a search, there's more info about it on here.

Go to Gimbel Eye Centre. I believe they give free evaluations but you need to book an appointment and be prepared to spend a couple of hours there.

The best LASIK surgeon at Gimbel is van Westenbrugge: http://www.gimbeleyecentre.com/ourdoctors/docs-jwestenbrugge.html

If you do ICL Gimbel is the only guy who can do it, or at least that was the case in '04.

:werd: I had it done last year, went to Mitchell Eye center at Chinook. I had the new Epi-LASIK procedure with wave-front technology. If you are going to do it, do it right the 1st time. Many of these (including Mitchell) have affordable re-payment plans as well. The only probs I had was the 1st 2 weeks. My vision was blurred and kept kicking in and out. Then all of a suden it was outta this world. I am currently 20/10 in my left and 20/15 in my right. The procedure is a breeze, however the 1 week recovery time for kme was absoloute hell. Wouldn't change a thing now though!!!....PM if you want more of the details and what to expect.
