Alright boys and girls, I need some help here. Can any of you think of costs of running a vehicle that I dont list here? (Buying Used)
-Initial Vehicle cost
-Inspection (rules and all that jazz?)
-Insurance
-Registration
-Tune-Ups
-Oil and such
-Mods :D
Anything else?
Thanks everyone!

How could I forget gas
Anyone know the rules about inspections? NOT RHD, just regular inspections?

If you buy a vehicle over a certain age, it needs an inspection for insurance. Some insurance companies will give you insurance first and then you can send the inspection report in later. Some will even accept a previous inspection as long as it was done less than two years ago.

if the car is over 10 years old all insurance companies require an inspection. They will insure the car and let you send in the inspection report later thou like said above.

Watch the mechanic doesn't try and screw you, they're always looking for you to spend money at their shop if they "fail" a certain part of the inspection.

When I took my wife's Accord in, they "failed" all 4 shocks. There was absolutely NOTHING wrong with the shocks (and they're stil good after 3 years of daily driving) . I told them to go F^%$ themselves and used some white out on the inspection report

Any licensed mechanic can do an insurance inspection. Should take more than an hour of work, so anywhere between 65-95 depending on the shop you go to.

(Just so you know it was a Canadian Tire that tried frauding me, so I wouldn't suggest them) I don't usually go to them, but my mechanic was out of town most of that month.

inspection + reg etc are only one-time costs ... its stuff like maint, gas, ins, etc you need to budget. those will vary person to person ... for example, 100 bucks in gas doesnt even get me 400kms ... but i dont spend 80 bucks a month on oil either (probably $25/m?).

oil is synthetic and that is just oil changes that Im thinking of so every 5 mths. Gas, I have no idea, too much ups n downs so thats variable.

You'll spend $100 in gas in less than a month if you're a typical driver.

All 3 cars Ive owned have been over 15 years old, never need an inspection for any of them.

Oh yes, and especially BRAKES!

Every used car I've ever boughten has needed a full set of brakes, and usually the rear drums (if equipped) have been rounded out WAY past safety.

Don't slack on this, brakes are the most important part of a car, for your safety, and the people around you. (as my dad always said...how would you feel about hitting an 8 year old kid because you cheaped out on getting your brakes done?)
