It is a hard find here,

I am also a calamari fan and I have yet to find anything as good as what I enjoyed in Vancouver.

For $5 I don't mind the calamari (side order) from Opa. It's cheap and fast.

I like the calamari at Broken Plate... But for something quick, you can't go wrong with Opa

Don't ever order calamari at Milestones downtown... it's like... processed calamari sticks.... :dunno:

I always order Calamari wherever I can find it, and surprisingly I liked the Calarari at Chiantis the best.

Jack Assters has some pretty good Calimari, at least they did the last time I ate there ( a few years ago). Chianti's is also pretty good...

Ditto, I love that stuff.

Also at Boston Pizza's until the end of August, they've got an appetizer portion of Calamari that's surprisingly good. It's about $7.xx for a decent size.

I just went to Opa after reading this thread, and I ate about 3 pieces before throwing it out. This stuff is difficult to swallow. Maybe I got a bad batch?

No I haven't been there recently. Probably 3-4 months ago, it was good then

Which one did you go to?

I have never had a bad serving of calamari there before.

I frequent the one in chinook and southcenter mall.

"santorini" on centre and 8th north.

This is by FAR the best greek food in the city. Calamaria, Pita, Sausage, shrimp.

Be prepared to pay about 50 dollar each for a full stomach.

Best fried squid in the city is at Ho Won in Chinatown. Not quite Calamari, but it's way better.

OPA is the most disgusting calamari I have eaten. Had a side order at SC and it was horrible (but I really like the lamb pita). If you like those then man you need to get out more. So far the only good place is Spiros on 17th. Havn't tried broken plate though.

If you like cactus club calamaria, you would go NUTS over santorini. So tender and delicous.

And actually its "calamaria" not calamari. Pronounced (Cah-lah-mar-eya) like the name "maria"

is calamari the Western version of the squid? most likely in small rings

and deep fried squid(chinatown style) the big piece fuckers(like 3 inch in length and rolled up) that often come with veggie tempura.

or its pretty much same thing? tomayto toemato

probably safer (from their perspective) to overcook so that you don't end up getting sick from undercook squid:dunno:

The best calamari I've had in Calgary was at La Brezza. It wasn't battered, it was served with a spicey tomato sauce (can't remember the name of the apetizer). Mmmmm...

If you're looking for kick ass calimari with a twist go to King Fisher in Dragon city mall downtown. F-ing amazing, it's lightly breaded and comes with this semi spicey red sauce on the side.....Mmmmmm. While you're there try the sweet curry prawns w/ coconut rice. Damn, I'm gonna go there right now!!!
