So I'm in the market for another car and this one will be primarily for the gf. I'm looking to spend under $32 000 and leaning towards imports. I haven't really done much research but the top two that she likes right now are the mini cooper and the new civic coupe. I was wondering if anyone can tell me the reliability of the Mini Cooper? If maintenance is expensive for the Mini?

Also if you have other cars in mind then please tell me what they are.

Thanks

VW for life. :D

How new are you looking to buy? Brand new or slightly used?

Not for $32K. They start there but you can only get quattro with the 3.2, starting at $44

She can take my mustang for $28,500, or $30,500 with the power adders :D

If she isn't into rwd or power though, I'd suggest a normal Impreza (sedan or "sport" wagon). AWD kicks ass.

edit to add: or a Tiburon Tuscani, it's a nice looking girls car.

I'm looking for brand new at this point and VW does sound like a good idea. I like the new hatchbacks and the Jetta's look pretty nice too.

I don't think that is in my price range if I buy brand new.

No mustangs heh ;) What's the reliability on a Tiburon Tuscani?

I'm basically looking for something good on gas and hot enough for the gf to like. So I most likely will be looking at 4 cylinder cars.

The list of what I'm going to look at now is.

Honda Civic Coupe
Mini Cooper
VW Golf/Jetta
Suburu WRX

I test drove the new Rabbit recently, I quite liked it, though stick to a manual, the auto has lots of lag between 0-3km/h, then it shoots off (like a rabbit) fully loaded they're around 26,000 I think.

WRX I think is out of your price range, base WRX is $35,500. (awesome car though) The normal Impreza starts at $25g.

Tiburons are good price for the car, though not a whole lot of power, fun to drive. Decent reliability, but not so great on gas for the minimum amount of horsepower. Look good though.

32,000 can get you alot of cars....i would go with the H's
honda n hyundai......hyundai have a bad rep there cars is of an amazing quality now go check out there dealerships...there always empty so u can haggle him like crazy.....
i think VW,subaru make good cars but litlle on expensive side to fix

everyone has a honda but that because hondas own...civic has a pimpin 2 lair dash, and they resale value is quite excellent

I test drove a lot of cars in that range and fell in love with how the WRX drove. The AWD is just something you have to experience. I say go for that if you can get past the looks (it's one ugly car :( and the fairly basic interior)

If performance is not a big concern I would go for the Rabbit. That car starts at 20K with a huge list of options!

I would go with the RALLIART very nice looking car 4 banger and 160 horsies fully loaded easily under 32G's also the eclipse or rsx.

You wont notice AWD on the street. You will notice it in the snow, maybe in the rain if your doing some sporty driving.

going from an integra to wrx is a huge difference. no you won't notice in stop and go traffic but push the car thru an on/off ramp and it's like night and day in dry conditions too.

S2000 is a bit out of the price range, and if I were to get an S2000 it would be for me and not for her :D

If you looked around though, you could very well find an S2000 for less than 32000. I picked mine up from Honda West with only 44 xxx km's for under 32 000 with extended warranty.

Both of you could pick one up each lol. I know my bf was tempted to do so when we took delivery of mine.

What about a 2003-2004 Infinity G35? or G35x?

You could get a way nicer car than a civic for $32000 if you buy something a couple of years old, and it will still have warranty. Not to say the civic isn't nice, but I wouldn't go for it if I was open to used cars and had $32000. You could pick up a couple year old Audi A4 as well, and it would be rock solid with AWD to boot.

A 1 year old WRX would be a nice choice too, as others have suggested, and I will second the fact that Hyundai is making some pretty damn competetive cars these days, they just unfortunately have the same reuptation as always which is no longer true.
