View Full Version : WRX gas mileage

Just curious as to what's the real world gas mileage you guys are getting with the WRX under the following conditions...

1) normal driving - ex: half back roads, half deerfoot
2) when you drive like a granny
3) when you really gun it

I know the EPA estimate is around 20/27 city/highway. Just want to know if that's accurate. Thanks.

My 06 WRX is as advertised pretty much:

I get about 400kms on a tank of gas (50L). Full tank would be 60L but I never let it go that low. thats 12.5l/100kms

I drive to downtown and back every day so that's pretty good.

If I drive like a granny I can get about 450-475kms/50L (11L/100kms)

If I really get on it hard as low as 300kms/50L. (16L/100kms)

Highways is suppose to be a lot better but haven't really done much hiway driving

You cannot compare EPA numbers to Transport Canada numbers as Gallon sizes are different.

The WRX is a turbo car. Expect to spend money feeding the horses.

Transport Canada numbers are 12l/100kms City and 8l/100kms highway, IIRC.

I said that as the original poster is using EPA numbers. You can't compare 20/27 EPA to the numbers TC gives you in mpg. It is much higher. Probably 24/31 or something like that. Last time I was at subaru, the TC sticker said the STi got 30mpg on the highway and I laughed.

I hit 28mpg with the STi between Vancouver and Kamloops. I thought at first that it was because it was all downhill, but that included my ascent on the Coquihalla. That was also on my break-in, so I drove it gently. As I recall, it was about 300 miles or 480km on just over 40L of gas.

Since then, around town I will get around 225 miles for 50L, or slightly worse than Aleks. So about 360km/50L or 13.9L/100km. Right after I broke the car in, I pretty much redlined it every chance I got and got about 160 miles or 256km on a 45L tank = 17.6L/100km.

On the highway, driving back and forth to Edmonton and Calgary, I get around 11L/100km. I have never seen the same mileage as I got on my drive back from Seattle, where I averaged 9-10L/100km on the highway.

I think it is a combination of a change in my driving style, and ethanol blended gas. On my drive back, I managed to find 94 Octane fuel that wasn't blended, and since my break-in, all I have bought is ethanol blended 94 from Husky.

i drive a 2005rs but i'll post what i have anyhow jsut to make you guys feel it some more.

on a full tank i can consistantly push out 700-800km's driving half backroads half highways.

if i'm gunning it everywhere i can still easily make 600-700kms per tank.

and on the other plus side i fill 87 octane...

Its ok Vincent we all know you have turbo envy. :D

You gotta pay to play, and I didn't buy my WRX thinking I would get the same gas mileage as my old civic.

I get 425-450kms on a tank with moderate city driving.

It's so hard to drive like a granny in a WRX. Instant power at your disposal. It's too much fun, well worth the gas pains :D

my mileage in the city is 400km (fuel light comes on)
highway i got 500km once which was really surprising

In city driving, half on deerfoot (during rush hour though) I average just above 500 KM. That's from full until the gas light comes on.

I sometimes get close to 550 KM.

I have been using Husky 94 exclusively, but was wondering if people have tried both Husky 94 and other gas and noticed a difference in their mileage. As I mentioned in my previous post, it was hard for me to tell because my switch to Husky 94 also occured when I completed the break-in period on the car.

my little 227hp takes about the following,

9-10km/liter on normal city driving (not stop and go traffic)
10-11km/litre hiway driving (120-125km/h)

Not unusual for me to go 500+km prior to refill (60L tank, and light comes on at approx 10L left). I've been tempted to try doing 600km+ on a tank, but i dont feel like buying a new fuel pump cuz i ran it outta gas, so eeh.

How about those that own a RS 2.5? what's the gas mileage like?
