Core 2 is where intel get back the performance crown from AMD.

It's putting some heat on AMD too...

I'm thinking you're going have to wait till about the end of August or early September to get your hands on these CPUs.....

Also the upcoming 965 chipsets from Intel and NVIDIA's nForce 500 series for Intel, haven't surfaced on any of the major motherboard manufactures.....

I know that the Asus P5B (used for some of the reviews) isn't even on Asus' Website....

Well atleast that's my beast guess....

would it be wise to wait until the new laptops with the core 2 duo comes out or will I be paying an arm n' a leg for it cuz it's brand new? Picking up a laptop for school now but I need it to last me quite a few years including running vista with ease.

Some people in the US already have Conroe chips that slipped out before the ORD. We'll get them within 2 weeks I'd bet. I get the impression it may run hotter than people were expecting though.

And just to make sure that you never have to stop upgrading, the quad core Intel Kentsfield may be out sometime in 2007 :nut:

I'm scared....

I think this processor power game is the wrong direction.

I don't want a furnance, I want a computer. I long for the days of 200W power supplies.

Just think of all these 400W monster and all they do is run MS WORD scares me. Running a rig like that is not much different than Hummer driver in car terms. A waste of resources.

Core 2 Duo product launch is July 27th - Intel will not let disti's sell these until early August. Which means an end user(you) won't be able to get one until mid August. This is going to be an extremely hot item during back to school so Intel will most likely allocate cpus to their biggest partners first, then everyone else after - if there are any left.

From first hand experience, these things are fast

I was planning on getting a dell laptop before school starts here.
It was either the 6400 or the 640m
Should I wait for the Core 2 Duo to come out or just pick on up with Core Duo?

"Planned obsolescence". On the bright side, PC hardware is cheap (relatively speaking) and most people can afford to start over every 12-18 months. Conversely, there are people that still use P3's and AMD TB's, and that suits them just fine. It all depends how much you need/demand out of your system.
