Anybody waiting for a JDM car on the next ship?

http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/story/2006/07/24/ship-listing.html

It says that the ship is bringing cars from Singapore to Vancouver but I wonder how many of them started in Japan, and if any are destined for here?

Good luck to the crew.

Ouch that sucks. Better get in contact with your importer and see what shipping lines they are using.

Goodluck to the crew/business.

hey guys, my friend just pointed me to this article.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/5212004.stm

I really hope import concern didnt have alot of their cars on that ship. Sucks to read about stuff like that. 5000 cars from JJapan to Vancouver.... luckily it sounds like the crew escaped mostly unharmed.

lol ... imagine waiting months and months and months for your car ... all the while drooling over the pics ... only to have it swallowed up by the ocean. yup, that would hurt.

Thats harsh.
It sucks even more for people getting brand new cars made in Japan, waiting for them, and having them go down under :(

1,376 of them were brand new Mazda's headed to Tacoma.

No JDM cars were on that ship

Only brand new cars.

If it's brand new cars, then that's even worse! But it mentioned at the bottom of the article that there were no cars that went overboard! So that's a good sign hopefully!

Nope, now they're all piled on top of eachother leaking gas and oil, $50 says 95% of them are write off's.

Even if the cars were secured, if (big if) they manage to right the ship, all of the seawater will run into the lower levels of the ship, and finish off the cars completely.

I hope no one is looking for a Mazda, as they may become a bit scarce in the next while.......

This happens quite often actually.. I remember seeing a site that posts shit that goes overboard, even just one container.. Sometimes its a container of shoes, I remember a whole load of honda motorcycles went over a few yrs back.. Sometimes in big storms the containers get broke open and shit floats all over the world, but chances are you'll never get two shoes to match... ha

Luckily I didn't have any cars on that boat. Man, I wouldn't want to have had to deal with all the insurance papers! At least my clients would have been insured though (and who ever thinks that insurance is good for nothing?).

The ship is now upright and being towed to Portland. They say the cars may be OK.

Good luck to the crew.

The article said the ship was Singapore based, not bringing cars from Singapore. The cars, most likely all new, are coming from Japan.

The shipping company is one of a couple that go between Japan and New Westminster. My company uses K Line and Mitsui OSK.

I guess that's why we buy insurance.

He is an update to that original article...

Mazda Motor Co. says nearly 5,000 cars, which were aboard a vessel when it rolled nearly completely onto one side while crossing the Pacific, will not be sold as new.

Mazda spokesman Jay Amestoy said Wednesday that the vehicles — which were mostly Mazda 3 compacts and CX-7 SUVs — would be sold as used cars with full new-car warranties.

This is bumping an old thread, but Mazda just did a press release yesterday saying that they are going to scrap the cars rather than sell any of them:

PRESS RELEASE:

All Mazda Vehicles From Car-Carrying Vessel
Cougar Ace to be Scrapped

IRVINE, Calif.--Mazda Motor Corporation today announced that all of the U.S.- and Canada-bound Mazda vehicles from the car-carrying vessel, Cougar Ace, which nearly capsized off the Aleutian Islands in late July, would be scrapped.

"After thorough testing by engineers from our American and Japanese R&D centers, we decided the most appropriate course of action – with our customers foremost in mind – was not to sell any of the 4,703 Mazdas aboard the ship," said Jim O'Sullivan, President and CEO of Mazda North American Operations, based in Irvine, Calif.
The Cougar Ace sat listing at more than 60-degrees for nearly a month after an incident at sea, before it could be towed to the Port of Portland, Ore., for repairs and to have its cargo off-loaded.

O'Sullivan added that although some of the Mazdas aboard the Cougar Ace showed little or no visible damage from being tied-down at severe angles for an extended period, the company reconsidered its initial decision to sell any of the vehicles as used.

"We always put the customer first," O'Sullivan continued. "This drove our decision to scrap every one of the Mazdas involved in this incident. None will be sold as used cars."

Headquartered in Irvine, Calif., Mazda North American Operations oversees the sales, marketing, parts and customer service support of Mazda vehicles in the United States, Canada and Mexico through nearly 900 dealers. Operations in Canada are managed by Mazda Canada, Inc., located in Ontario, Canada, and in Mexico by Mazda Motor de Mexico in Mexico City.
