ive been looking for a car for about a month now. looked at alot of 240sx's, 300zx's, some skylines, silvias, even some porsche 944's. but after running into complications with all the above ( such as insurance and.. viewing a couple lemons)
i am getting frustrated and am looking for some suggestions.

Originaly i wanted a performance car. you know something i could just put power into, but after thinking about it, and how much trouble i am having finding one, i have switched my mind to a cruiser styled car.

Although it would be more along the comfort ride, i still want some decent power out of it. ( and be able to put some mods into!)

So far i have Looked at,
The Monte Carlo SS
and
Grand Prix GTP's.. mostly looked at the 2002 addition.

So far.. i am stumped on what would be a decent cruiser.

can you guys help suggest some cars for me which are along the lines i am looking? so i can research and look into them.

Thank you very much

if he was looking at 240's, silvias, and 944's this might be out of his price range, not to mention this car has all the same problems with insurance, and maintenance (due to the rotary engine)

What about a 02-04 Civic SiR? That's within price range... Or perhaps a 99-02/03 Accord Coupe?

The older Accords are a very nice car for a good price. The newer 2003 and above styling Accords are way above his range.

By cruiser, I'm guessing you want a car you can just sit there, in any gear, push down on your right foot and go fast.

I think a 1997-1998 BMW 540i would fit the bill quite nicely, and it is plenty fast. It has one of the best automatics I've ever experienced. You should be able to find one for around $16000.

I am personally not very fond of the grand prix GTP as it has been using the same engine I believe for over 10 years. It is a 3.8L, pushrod, supercharged V6 that makes less power than all or most of the the 3.5L non-supercharged competition. That being said, it should have a decent torque curve and it is likely easy to modify a bit because it already has a supercharger fitted. Other downfalls are FWD, and build quality - but - you are able to get a reasonably new one at 2002. I'm not sure how important that is to you.

I would stay away from the Monte Carlo SS. It is again a very dated car that hasn't been changed in almost a decade. The "super sport" model has only 200HP, and I think your money would be better spent elsewhere - even on the Grand Prix.

Civics are not "cruisers" in my opinion, as a cruiser to me means torque, comfort, some size, and the car hardly working at highway speeds.

Also for 16000 I think you could get a pretty nice 2001 or perhaps even 2002 maxima. You may be able to get into an Altima with the excellent 3.5L V6. With that you would get your build quality, reliability and its as good of a "cruiser" as the others, the only downfall as modding it will be difficult. It is very hard to see any sort of truely significant HP gains without adding or improving on an existing supercharger/turbo.

Just my $0.02, and as with all these threads, go out and drive them all and buy whatever you like the best.
