I dunno. Looks a lot like the gallardo body
I think it was posted in the automotive news section previously too

Even if that was how it looks like, you have your amg. It should keep you happy enough :bigpimp:

CAn't afford a real Lambo so this will do. At least it's not a kit car or anything like that :D It's so exotic looking and it can perform. As long as it's price in the $80k range, it's all good. :bigpimp:

The engine will be a 4.8L V8 supplied by BMW and capable of 367hp (274KW).

Somehow I doubt that. Lotus has been making its own engines, or at least its own very tweaked versions of other engines, since the 1960s, and they proved they could make a reliable 300+hp four-cylinder with the engine in the S4S. They just debuted their own excellent V8 in 1996 - I doubt they'll just cast that aside and sign up BMW, a company with whom, as far as I know, they've had no prior dealings with.

Whatever engine it has though, I'm looking forward to seeing the Esprit return :D

repost, it says in the other post, that picture is an "artists rendering" of what a Lotus Esprit might look like!

That's true, but it's because their four cylinder was 25ish years old and unsuitable, and they have a history working with Toyota (mainly with the Excel, but next time you see a mid-90s Esprit, spot the AE86 taillights...). The Elise originally had a Rover engine but it wouldn't pass North American emissions regulations so they chose the proven Celica engine which was already in use over here.

The old Esprit's V8, though, is a great, relatively new aluminium 3.5 with 350hp - I'm just doubting that they're chucking in the dumpster.

Even if they do decide to outsource for the engine, I wouldn't expect it to be a BMW unit. Lotus has ties to several other companies they could try first - the long-standing Toyota connection, a successful GM connection, an old Ford connection, and a Mitsubishi connection through current owner Proton.

I may very well be proven incorrect, but I would be surprised to see a BMW badge nestled into an Esprit.

Hmmmm. The EVO's 287HP 4G63 would fit nicely in a little RWD car like that.

The old engine in the European Elise was not a Lotus unit either, but a Rover 4-banger.

As I mentioned. :) The K-series is a decent little engine which later had Rover's VVC variable timing system, but they couldn't (easily) bring it over to North America so they switched to the Toyota lump.

I suppose there is a faint BMW connection as they, for a short while, owned the now non/hardly existant Rover, whom Lotus had sourced several components from (K-series engine, '80s Esprit taillights, etc). Still, I'd be surprised to see a BMW V8 in the new Esprit.
