Heard the place on stephen ave is good (by Scotia centre).

There's a salt and pepper in Bowness which is supposed to be good. Been to neither.

I have been to Julio's Barrio and it blows

El Sombrero (sp?) on 17th. Haven't been there in years, but I still hear great raves about them to this day.

Julio's Barrios has good atmosphere, magritas, and huge portion sizes the food just isn't extremely great.

I used to love Salt and Pepper I always found the Bowness restaurant to be the best. I would just about give my right leg for some of those cheese filled Poblano chile peppers, but last time we went my hubby did they all you can eat Tacos and there was shredded plastic in his food. That was the last time we went about 3 years ago.

I am growing my own Ancho/poblano's this year and we will try some recipes.

I have been curious about Julio's Barrios though.

I thought Julio's Barrios was good, but I'm not sure how authentic it is. By good I mean decent quality, good size portions for the price, decent service. Not the best but certainly far from the worst I've been to.

there's already a large thread on mexican food, try the search function

julio's barrio sucks. i can get over the fact that it's NOT mexican, but they use the cheapest fucking ingredients i've ever been served at a restaurant. i'm talking sub-no name quality.

el sombrero is OK but not very authentic

salt and pepper is probablly the best/modt authentic i've had in calgary, but it's waaaay overpriced (like at least 3 times what it should be) and the portions are super small. my friend who is like <100lbs is still hungry after eating there
