Whats a better buy for a first car. A supra or an Integra Type R. Which is a better car overall.

stevieo

first car?

how about you don't buy either so you don't wrap those nice cars around a pole, tree, another car.

everyones first car should be a 85 hp wagon, and or sedan

Given that it's your first car and the choices are Supra and Type R.... and you probably also want to drive this car in the winter... you better stick to the Type R and save the RWD for the big boys :D

wow... my first car was a $1400 beater. it treated me well and tought me a lot. I really think these kids that have a 15,000+ car handed to them miss out on the joys of financial responsibility...

WHITE-ITR

Its not handed too me. And I agree with you that you dont respect things when they are given to you as much when you buy it yourself. There are tons of jobs in Calgary that are paying good and if you are smart and know how to save then you can get a nice car for yourself.

If I had to choose between those two cars I would have to go with the supra hands down. Turbo and RWD will be a lot more fun than the teg.

I miss my 85 plymouth caravan..... no back seats, no carpet but I had power locks, power windows and no matter the condition, it always started.

oh yeah....I would not recommend either for a first car... but if you had to...
MK IV > Type R
MK III < Type R
but thats just me.

Ok.

1st question "what is a better buy, supra or type R"?

2nd question "which is a better car overall"?

Well, Honda's are usually reliable as all hell. Supra's are reliable as all hell too.

Define "Better" so we know how to answer this vauge question that you have asked.

Integra - FWD
Supra - RWD

Both are sports cars, and the previous owners have probably flogged the car on the street/track.

Both have a shitty rear seats, and both would be hell to drive in winter (specifically the Supra).

Pick your poison, but as Stevieo said, don't buy either of those so you don't wrap them around a pole.

It's not smart to buy a high horsepowered vehicle as your first vehicle.

I've owned quite a few high(er) HP vehicles, and I currently own a 90HP 1985 Corolla. With the suspension and diff, it's teaching me more about driving than any of the other cars I've owned (FWD, RWD, etc). To hone your skills, buy a LOW HP car, and learn to drive it fast. If you're a shitty driver, you're still going to be slow in a fast car. If you're a great driver, you're going to be damn fast in a slow car.

core_upt
08-07-2006, 10:09 PM
two as stated two very different cars.

Which ever way you go, it'll be tough to move onto other cars and still get the same satisfaction/exhileration from driving.

well double clutching is when your shifting, put it in neutral let go of the clutch, push it back in and shift to your desired gear.

but you should be looking else where, because both the itr and the supra will cost you a penny or 2. Unless you pick up a 87+ supra, anything over 92 (not to sure on the year) will cost you your wallet

supras...well in the states you can pick one up for 25,000 ish.... but i have seen some in canada go for a little over 50K integras are below 20k but of course your going to want to go faster and its going to take that much more money. Get a van because i would rather see you smash that peice van then a supra/integra.

By "nice" I was meaning excellent condition, low mileage stock cars. Most of those are heavily modded, save for the second one which only has 19,000 miles and is priced accordingly high. You could buy a $100k, non Type R Integra showcar if you wanted to, but that doesn't really have any bearing on what the average stock one is worth.

my mark 3 which i currently own is my first car. makr 3 supras are fun but dont buy one if you are gonna be stupid. get a teg cause of your username i guess.

Oh and double clutching is useless on modern cars, you only use it when you have an old gearbox with no synchros.

And Jaymez knows his shit about supras. On supraforums well cared, lowmiles go for 80k+ easily.

And i do agree, the mark 4 overshadows his older brothers... Its a shame really because mark 3's get no respect as seen in the chart explaining
Mark 4>ITR
Mark 3<ITR
Well who cares, my mark 3 is gonna be viper hunting soon when its running again :D

I don't doubt that he does. This is what I'm talking about though:

1994 TOYOTA SUPRA, 62,000 km, mint, loaded. 6spd. Silver w/Dark Blue leather. Single turbo, intake, exhaust & electronics all upgraded + extras. Newer tires. TOO much to list! Never raced. Serious inquiries only, $45,000.

yeha but its modified to only a cetrtian extent... Full original ones and 1000hp range ones go for that price range.
