I'm gonna be looking for a job as an apprentice welder
very soon, does anyone know of any good fab shops
in calgary I can look at? I want to get into oilfield
equipment production and rig construction. Hopefully
after a few years of journeyman work I can get my
own welding truck and do contract work :D

Anyone have any advice?

My dads company supplies stainless pipe, fittings, etc to most of the local fabricators. He said they are all looking for welders right now. Every one of their customers are swamped right now. A lot of the bigger shops like Enerflex are even contracting their work out to the smaller shops.

The list of fabricators would be endless...

Enerflex / Compression Services
Compressco
Energy Industries
Opsco Energy Industries
Crown Energy
Natco Canada
Propak (Airdrie)
Sunwell Industries
Bidell Equipment
Platinum Energy
Westfab Industries
Ucanu (Magic Span)
Aker Kvaerner
Maloney Industries
Moss Fabrication
Plains Fabrication
Zazula Process Equipment
Braeside Fabricators
Flo-Skid Manufacturing
Enersul Inc.
Lockerbie & Hole
Trotter & Morton
Pyramid Corporation

And that is not even beginning to scratch the surface...

lockerbie and hole is garbage.... just pointing that out for in the first reply

it all depends on whether your going to go for your b pressure or just stay with your CWB...

if your just going in for structural then its gonna be a peice of cake, but if your gonna be going for the full out pressure welder, your gonna have to stick out the full 3 years of school and shop experiance before your gonna be making over 30$ an hour

now doing structural, i could be making 32$ an hour in october, and i would of only been in the trade for 1 year ;)

either way, its good that your looking for a fab shop to apprentice you, and if you can find a fab shop that will have you doing welding instead of pushing brooms, picking up rods or some sort of spark watch, your bonna be atleast 2 years ahead of the game when it comes to welding

Hey thanks for the replies. That list of companies should come in real handy.

Do welders with their B-Pressure tickets make more money as journeyman?

What's the most comman journeyman rate right now for welders? Like, just the regular ticket.
