I have 2 amps, here are the specs:

Amplifier 1:
120 watt MTX 4 channel 4244 Thunder

Amplifier 2:
Rockford Fosgate P325.1 Punch
397 watts total RMS @ 2 ohms
245 watts RMS @ 4 ohms

So how do I run these? I'm thinking of running 8 gauge power wire from each to the distribution block, and another 15 foot 8 gauge wire from the distribution block to the battery with an lnline fuse. Is 8 gauge okay? I really don't want to shell out the cash for a 4 gauge kit.

I did some calculations on the resistance and amps of the wiring and this is what I got:

Resistance:
R = 1 / 1.26 ^ (difference between 8awg and 10awg)
R = 1 / 1.26 ^ 2
R = 1 / 1.586
R = .629881582

Amps:
I = E / R
I = 12 / .629881582
I = 19.051200008

Is this right? My next question is, "Do I now get the amp rating for my speaker amp, add it to the 19 for my sub amp and use that to see if it'd draw too much power on the single 8 gauge going from the distribution block to the battery?"

If that is all you are going to ever have you should be fine with 8ga but i would suggest going with 4ga so you can upgrade in the future if you want.

Agreed. Shell out the extra cash now and you can use it in the future if you ever upgrade your amps.

Is that fine for now though? The 8 gauge kit was already $90 at Futureshop.

Walmart didn't have a lot when I was there today, I was looking for a distribution block and they didn't have any. I'll check for wiring though tomorrow along with Cash Converters.

$1.57/foot and this is the best 4GA wiring Stinger makes, I ordered 30 feet of it from them 25 grey batt->dist->both amps and 5 feet of black for my grounds on both amps.

I also got 3 sets of 20 foot Stinger Dream RCA's total cost came to a little over 90USD, which is an amazing price for what I got.

Fast shipping and everything, they are a good seller.

the mtx will only accept 8g though, so the rf amp can take 4, so keep that in mind as well..

It'll be 8 gauge into both amps, to the block. But might have to be 4 gauge from the block to the battery.

Does anyone know where in Calgary I can get fuses higher than 35 amps? I need 50 or 75 and I checked Home Depot, Walmart and Canadian Tire. It has to be an inline fuse, not the regular auto fuses. Would CMS have them? Are there any other custom shops?

Definetly return an 8 ga kit that cost you $90. I have 4 AWG STREETWIRES Kits for $90. If you need distrobution we also have 4 AWG kits with Distro. These kits sell for $119, and they come with all of the 4 AWG, and 8 AWG you need to install two amps. As for fuses, we have glass fuses up to 80a, and other fuses up to 300a. All in stock, and very good quality.

Definetly spend the few extra bucks, and use 4 awg so your amps can perform the way they are supposed to. There is no point on spending $200-300 on an amp, if you won't spend the extra $20-30 for the proper wire.

I bought a 4 gauge kit at Cash Converters but I still need fuses. I need 2 5A fuses, one 40 amps and the other 25, who do you work for? Where are you?

*EDIT - just saw your signature, I'll drop by tomorrow afternoon and pick that stuff up.

Picked up 2 50 amp fuses, those should do.

Jonathon,

How long is that 4ga kit?

The Kit is about 14 1/4", but if you are talking about the wire, the multi amp kit, it comes with 18' of 4 awg blue, 10' of 8 awg blue, and 8' of 8 awg silver.
