Just wondering about how to make my engine look show clean. Is it safe to use the engine degreaser at the car washer? does it void my warranty? car washer pressure hose or at home hose?

any tips would be great!

Thx

If you goto a coin-op car wash, you do NOT want to use the full pressure rinse, the degreaser is fine since it's a light spray.

Cover your alternator, distributor, spark plugs. if you use the pressure washer just make sure your not so close.

you dont need to cover anything other than a exposed filter on a newer sunfire. I spray heavy duty degreaser on the engines 4 times a day, and it dont do anything to the engine. Just gotta let it run for 15 minutes when your done to let it dry everyting up.

Ive seen them do it, they use the pressure washer and they spray it all over until every dirt and grime is off. They don't cover anything at all, they just try to avoid the electric parts like alternator and such.

For me the engine degreaser from the car wash works fine on little oil spills but if you have gunky oily stuff there then you need to use the Gunk Heavy Duty Engine Degreaser from Crappy Tire. Make sure you rinse it good.

Or you can just call your dealer and ask them to wash your engine for you for $25.

:D Yes, somewhat true, however you have to remember that one of my vehicles *is* my daily driver. It just so happens that it is the one with an engine bay the size of a small country :)

Two years ago I did some engine cleaning with some Orange hand cleaner, several toothbrushes and a bunch of rags . I had no water supply or drain in the garage . It took a week, but I got rid of 6 six years worth of grime.

1 - spray on simple green

2 - scrub it abit

3 - rinse it off

4 - do it over and over again till you have desired cleaness :D

I did this last week and it turned out great

What did you end up using? I suppose I should clean mine. If you looked at the engine you'd think my car was like 10 years old

I just use dish soap (they're a kick ass degreaser) and a sponge, when I'm done I dry it with a towel. That's about it really..

Here is a very detailed process on how to detail an engine. I have done this on my legend and it works wonders. The file is fine to open or save as well....

Here it is:

thx guys for answering back. I talked to my dealer today and he said it was alright to use the engine degreaser at the car wash. He also said that there is no need to cover anything up when your car is stock. I think that I will end up using the engine degreaser at the wash first to get the big stuff off and then tidy it up with a good scrubbing

Please cover up your alternator and your fuse box, as well as any wiring harnesses with exposed connection points before you have to go back to the dealer and buy a bunch of new parts. They would love to sell you a new alternator..... and they would love to diagnose an electrical short.... I am sure of it ;)
